Even worse than the peeps bolting early are the fine folks who were sitting in front of me today(Guy was probably 40ish, girl was in her 30's) acting like they were teenagers and their parents had just gone to bed for the night. From the 1st quarter to fourth they were all over each other kissing, nibbling ears, etc. They must have taken at least 40 picture where the girl would take the camera and take a picture of themselves. It was completely absurd and out of place.......not to mention these people (especially the woman) were pretty vile looking.

Oh ok..

I pay for a parking pass and don't tailgate, and there are a lot of others like me, perhaps most. Conversely, a lot of tailgaters don't have parking passes, and it doesn't cost anything to set up a tent on a vacant patch of ground. I suspect tailgaters who don't buy game tickets are a net loss to the University, when security, wear and tear on buildings and grounds, etc, are taken into account. If I'm wrong, I'd like someone to show me the figures proving it.
Good for you, man. That parking pass helps pay for the student or faculty parking lot you park in that has been there for 20 years.
It almost sounds like you're pissed about having to pay for a parking pass that is near where people can park and tailgate for free.
What is your issue? Has your parking pass price gone up because prisons are charging more for inmate trash cleanup on Sunday mornings?
What lot are you in?
I'm not happy about stupid fricks that can't seem to put their vehicle between the parking stripes in my lot. If a stupid dipshit can't put their vehicle in one space in a parking pass lot, then they need to buy more than one space or get towed.

I have a parking pass because I can afford it and the convenience is worth the price to me. That's not the issue.
My problem is the people who leave the game at halftime because their tailgate is more important to them than the game. And others who are there just to party and never go to the game, but contribute to the congestion around the stadium, thus motivating others to leave early to try and beat the traffic. Not to mention the trash issue, which has already been beaten into the ground.
People who tailgate have a good time, a lot of people enjoy it. I'm not disputing that. I'm saying not enough attention has been paid to the negatives, both in terms of cost and in terms of the effect it has on the atmosphere on campus and inside the stadium.

What about the effect those people have on local bars, restaurants, convenience stores, hotels etc....
Those people spend a shite ton of money in your city and you should be happy to have them.

Most people who tailgate pack up their car and bring their groceries, booze, etc. with them.
They don't necessarily shop in Baton Rouge unless they forgot something.
The amount of traffic, trash, etc. was so not worth the extra people.

Then at least realize that football, surprisingly, isn't what this world revolves around. If the tailgating culture was actually detrimental to LSU and Baton Rouge it would've been curbed by now. However the money that flows through the city on any given gameday far outweighs any negativity that that tailgate culture might bring.
Look I hate an empty stadium just as much as you do but dismantling part of the tradition and culture that LSU football was built upon is a long way away from the answer.

Says the guy who doesn't go to games at all to "protest our poor play."

That's funny considering that every restaurant, convenience store, grocery store and bar is absolutely packed and all the hotels are at capacity on any given home game.

I leave at halftime nearly every game I go too but stayed today (vision is leaving me and pisses me off). It was beautiful weather though and a very entertaining game to say the least. I noticed about 15-20% of the fans leaving early and wasn't critical but thought it was bizarre.
That said, I saw about 50 people trying to sell tickets before the game. Looked like skid row on outside of the west side of the stadium 2 hours before kickoff.

Oh, Tigress, I just noticed you're probably a girl so I won't flame you like I would a man. But, seriously? You think everyone manufactures everything they have at their house from....dirt?...or thin air? They don't go to the store at some point to replenish with whatever it was they packed up their car? Even if they don't live in BR they STILL had to go to the store SOMEWHERE to get it and there was an economic impact there. Geez...

Gameday at LSU is big-time. It has a very significant economic impact on Baton Rouge and LSU that echos far beyond just gameday. I can assure you that people much smarter than you have weighed the positives and the negatives and what we have is the results of that equation.
Don't sweat it. Life is short, enjoy it...soak it in. It's a very unique experience in the world of experiences. You just might be taking it for granted a bit. And I might add, don't take it all so seriously. It'll all be here long after you are gone.
