Swapping from Winchester SuperX 140gr to Nosler Ballistic Tip 130gr in a .264 Win Mag. In your opinion how far off do you think the Nosler will be at 100 yd?

That's a tough question, the velocity/bullet type change could create bullet drop differences. I can't imagine that the poi would change very much horizontally. My guess would be it will be within 1-2" of the previous ammo's point of impact. I'm guessing it will hit high when compared to the SuperX.

Don't listen to wiltz, he's a democrat.
Your answer is that there's no way to tell. Gotta shoot it. Oh, and LOVE that round!

ok. I shot two Winchester rounds at 100 yards that were dead on. Then shot new Nosler twice. Vertically virtually no difference but were 6" to the right. Was able to bring them back to dead center but just did not and still dont understand how there can be that much difference at 100yds. Thoughts?

thats weird. height on the grouping was good?

Yes height virtually no different. Doesnt make sense to me either but it was consistent.

did you shoot the first rounds again after you walked the new ones in?

The .264 is a damn hot round with the 140 gr. Why change?
Posted on 11/10/12 at 1:52 pm to KingRanch
No, probably should have. Ive only got one left. Ill try that this afternoon and see what happens.

shoot the old round and let us know how that goes, that is really strange

that is a tough question and cant really be answered in my opinion. different guns like different rounds. your gun might love that round, or it might not.
How tight of a group are you trying to get at 100yards?
for example, my .308 likes heavier rounds and my 7mag like lighter rounds for tight grouping.

308 in Federal Fusion 150 and Hornady SST 150 shoot with half inch(elevation) of each other at 100 yds.Thats outta my wifes A-Bolt.I was surprised that they shot like that.

Different guns just like different bullets
You can get as scientific as you want with it (barrel frequency and crap like that) but some guns just shoot certain loads differently.

The nosler ballistic tip was horrible in my .270 I shot 4 deer with it. I was lucky to find the deer, did a lot damage at entry but no exit and blood clotted the whole side the deer I lost lot of meat. But the worst problem was no exit hole so no blood. One doe I shot in the neck so that was no problem but I shot 3 bucks broadside behind the should and all 3 times the bullet made a right turn went through guys and had pieces of bullets in hindquarters and in the foot. After the third time this happened I changed bullets. It left zero blood trail each time I just happened I walk up on the deer.
