I think the majority of Hog fans would be okay with it if he was hired but there is definitely a sizable segment of people that don't care for him.

...what is the sizable segment's knock on gus?

People would be ok with Gus if we swing and miss on our first 10 targets

Yes. Cam Newton was the reason, not "Cousin Gus". AU with Gus and not Newton = 8-5

...right. that is the reason carolina sucks.

That segment believes there are many better options for Arkansas, he has a gimmicky offense that has only worked with freaks(DMAC & Cam), his wife is crazy, and a lot of people just want to leave that entire Springdale crew in the past.
So stop saying that "uncle Gus" is IMMENSELY popular in NW and central Arkansas because that is not the case. You said yourself that you are an outsider and you clearly don't have a good gauge on what Hog fans want.

...hmmmm

can't understand why the western world sees gus as nothing less than an excellent coach, but people right there on the farm don't see it the same.

...i don't know. it worked pretty good at tulsa, and looks to be working pretty good at arkansas State, and they don't have any freaks of nature.

if houston nutt would have turned the offense over to gus at arkansas, it probably would have worked better there too. arkansas never ran a hurry up series the year houston had gus, so no one honestly believes gus was calling a single play. didn't arkansas underachieve at like 8-5 or something close to that the year gus was there, that with one of the best offensive backfields ever assembled in college football?

Must not haved watched the USC game where we ran the HUNH and ended up abandoning it during the first half because we couldn't move the ball.

C-USA and the Sun Belt are not the SEC either.

1. He's hated by many
2. Shiloh Springdale were winners before him and Har Ber now is winning. His last team they should've split but didn't, it was a cluster.
3. Umm no
4. Ace recruiter because he got Frazier and Dyer? Try again. The Chicken 5 doesn't count as they were Chickendale kids and a true NWA person will tell you how successful that kids from high school are in the Nam.
5. Newton and 10 others were pretty damn important.
6. By running a 1940's offense?
7. See number 1
8. stAte folks aren't good enough, learn that rule.

I think one the biggest problems that many of our fans have with Gus hinges on his affiliation (or past affiliation) with Ronny Floyd. If you're wondering who that is, he's the preacher in the infamous video with Malzahn's wife. I'm not sure about what some fans fear about Ronny, but I'm also not from northwest Arkansas.

Gus's wife doesn't bother me that much. I'm used to that kind of thing. But honestly, I don't think Gus wants the job, at least not right now. And I really don't think money is a big motivating factor with him. If he's happy at Arkansas State, I think he should stay put for a while.

Personally, I think he's a good coach and probably would be quite successful if hired. But I can also think of some names who would not stir up as much turbulence within the fan base. We're kind of unstable as it is.

My biggest concern is with Jeff Long. I'm not really that convinced that he knows what he's doing when it comes to hiring a good coach.

4- who? or see #3
5- Scam Newton
6- does put up a lot of points, but also puts a huge strain on his own defense
7- Shilo disciple cult member with pyscho wife
8- Money is never a problem at the Flagship

I don't know why I don't like Gus as our coach, besides the fact i don't think he's ready and that i don't really like his offense, it's to cutesy for me, but besides all that, idk seem off with him and i can't figure it out. he may be a serial killer or something
