Why is the Hook and Lateral not used more often in non-desperate situations?

Every team should be hooking and lateraling like all the time. It should be art, an entire offense should be built around the hook and lateral scheme and dynamics. I think i'm ahead of my time some days.

Risk factor?

I've always wondered why teams don't practice lateraling more. I know the risk goes up but if your team becomes great at it I would think the reward could be worth it

The reason the Hook and Lateral goes so well im late game situations is because the defense is in prevent.the guys get all day to throw back without someone hittingthem
They would fumble most of the time against a normal defense

The oopty oop is a much better offense to run than the hook and lateral.

Reggie Bush thought the same thing in the NCG against Texas

We used it on a couple of TDs in flag football last night.

Its the same reason the option isn't run, it's hard enough to hold on to the ball, why take the risk?
