Are you going to one of the GSLE campgrounds? I'm pretty sure all three campgrounds have mattresses on metal bed frames. They're about 3-4 inches thick and plastic-coated, so not terribly comfortable, but you're not exactly sleeping on the ground. (I've gone with my daughter to Camp Whispering Pines & Camp Marydale, and she stayed at Camp Covington so I peeked at their tents/cabins.)

I'd still bring some type of foam or air mattress to put on top of the existing mattress if possible.

I've got pretty severe back issues and I use a big arse air mattress and it's pretty much orgasmic by night two.

Dorothy. We will be at marydale at some point, but this time we will be at the zoo for overnight camping. They specifically said no air mattresses. I'm also about to order a tent, bc I think our kids are spoiled with our camper we also plan on taking the troop for some overnighters at the state campground.
