I do not see Tyrann Mathieu as a bad guy. I know some family member's of his in New Orleans and it seems to me like he has just made some bad decisions and has not "grown up" yet. He is not slinging crack on a street corner with a gun in his belt. He was with a friend who was selling pot to college kids. The folks who rented the house next to me at Bama supplied half of fraternity row. Ran into one of them recently....He is a surgeon. Is it illegal yes. How many of us would like to answer for every illegal act we may have done, or in this case were just in the same room as, while in college and have it blasted to the world?

My biggest problem is the sport's press need to sensationalize this story and put it on the front page of espn.com, cnnsi.com, Yahoosports, etc. This is NOT a big sports story unless you are a sleazy muckraker. Matthieu needs to be left alone.

Did he bring a lot of this on himself, yes. He still is making some bad choices. Unfortnuately, the haters of the world revel when someone with a lot of bravado takes a fall. If it had been Claiborne instead of Matthieu, I doubt the story last year would have been as sensationalistic. Claiborne was quiet and Matthieu was flashy and the press saw it as a way to sell more papers and increase the hits on their websites.

Matthieu has not fallen off the cliff. He just needs to grow up. He probabaly needs to move away from Baton Rouge for a while and explore some other avenues for friends. He still will have an opportunity to show his wares in the NFL if he chooses.

Mathieu is no longer a member of our team nor are the other 3. How they live their lives means nothing to me.

This thread seems well reasoned and sincere. Seems a bit out of place.

ikoikoiko, you need to get back on the lair. Solid post and agree with you.

Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with the wise shall become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm.

TM HAS to sever ties with those "friends" who continue to make terrible choices. If he wants to achieve great things down the road, he's gonna have to do the difficult thing and put those guys in his rear view mirror.

He needs to separate himself from current friends and makes new ones. It's an old adage for alcoholics and drug users but one that is completely true.

He's not.

*yet. Keep going in this direction, and he will be.

That won't work. The problem is not Baton Rouge. It's not Jordan Jefferson. It's not the fame. It's not even weed. The problem is TM. Hopefully he realizes that one day, if not soon.
