What's with all the negativity regarding Mett?

I'm no Mettsiah fanatic sunshine pumper, but I really don't understand the amount of negativity surrounding him.
I think he's performed about as well as could be hoped for at this point. Has he had some issues? Of course; that's to be expected. Are these issues the norm or in any way continually detrimental to our offense as a whole? I don't believe so.
I believe more of the share of the blame falls on the WRs -- much more. I'm not knocking them, they're still progressing also - however, I believe that they are under-performing and that Mett is performing slightly above what is to be expected.
I definitely see Mett as a huge asset compared to our most recent QBs.
If anyone wants to clarify their position on Mett's ineptitude (or lack thereof), please feel free.

So you're disputing that? What are your expectations of him given the WR and O-line situation?

He's not as good as most of us expected. But he's what we've got and it's not going to change at this point. Ride with it and hope it gets corrected in the offseason, either with improvement from Mett or with a change at QB.

I agree
Hard for him to do much better with conservative, limited play calling, a run first offense, a mediocre, inconsisstent OLine and receivers like OBJ who drop more balls than they catch.

Thus far, he hasn't proven to be the upgrade from Lee/JJ that the team needed, so he's being lambasted.
At the beginning of the season, it was almost a given that ANYBODY could have been better than Lee/JJ. That hasn't panned out.

I agree... I was hoping for more pre-season, but with the offensive issues at hand, I couldn't ask for any better.
I think one huge issue with peoples' perception of his performance is that he was over-hyped (caused by our frustration with our recent QBs and some unreal expectations) and people assigned him a status as a QB who would reignite LSU's offense in his first season as a starter.
I think in the years to come he'll develop nicely.
ETA: I would however like to see more Rivers just to see what we're working with, but despite our coaches' apparent issues in the offense department currently, I'll go ahead and trust their judgment (at least somewhat) that Mett is the better candidate.

His accuracy is real bad. He can't complete a pass.

He made some bad throws on saturday but beyond that his biggest weakness is not having a receiver who is consistent at catching.
Also no receivers can get separation.
Avery Johnson would have gotten some PT if he could qualify

Against Florida they were awful. But these last 2 games have been almost all on Mett. Mett couldn't hit jack shite yesterday. He overthrew EVERY deep pass except 1 which was still a tough catch for Landry (and was dropped). He was just way off yesterday, but at least made no mistakes.

The pure negativity? Les Miles fans have to blame someone so they blame the players.
The blame is plentiful and can be shared by a whole lot of folks, not just one. The QB isn't playing well at the present time but some of us have given up on having a stellar QB for a while.

This hasn't been entirely true. There has been separation on several deep throws. Unfortunately, those are low-percentage passes, and either WR's haven't made the play on the ball or the pass has been errant.

i qualify as a purveyor of some negativity, esp. last nite. my explanation is that i expected a lot more than i've seen; the kid qb'ed a juco team to the nc and has spent one year in our system. my observation is that he is not an accurate passer and he can't run. he has tripped over his own feet, threw a pass way past the line of scrimmage and overthrows many receivers. my suspicion is that he is not a take charge type guy; no proof, he just seems to saunter out there and play and doesn't have a lot of interaction with the rest of the team. sure, he's had a lot of dropped passes but his accuracy has hurt this team as much or more. that's my position. now, i also assume he's the best we got so i am adjusting my expectations and hoping for the best.

The majority of Metts deep throws yesterday were overshot, but if tey would have been any shorter they would have been picks due to the receivers not bein able to separate

I think that sums it up. I wasn't impressed with him vs aTm, but that's really his worst performance I've seen.
Some (the majority, I'd say) of the games he's played, he's exceeded my expectations when you take the WRs mistakes out of the picture.
One thing I've heard a lot is that he can't run - and that's obvious. However, I do like that he shows initiative and puts himself into the belly of the beast trying for a first down, seemingly without hesitation.

LSU GranDad, I agree completely with him seemingly not taking charge. I think he has some issues in the leadership department as well as some anxiety issues that aren't necessarily unrealistic given what he has put himself into.
I do see those issues improving, but whether or not they improve enough is the question. I still feel he can be a successful QB even if he is not to improve much in the leadership area. Not ideal, obviously, and I have no delusions of him being a hall of fame QB, but I do feel he can get the job done given time and effort.

His accuracy is below expectations. He is extremely inconsistent. However, he is our guy...show him some love. He didn't ask for Mettsiah (he doesn't even like it), it is not his fault he was soooo hyped.
