PFF on Cameron Jordan
Posted on 10/18/12 at 8:38 am

they were reviewing players in their second season
here
Defensive end Cameron Jordan is leading all 4-3 defensive ends in Run Stop Percentage at 10.5%.
With a solid MLB and this guy it amplifies the OLB weakness all the more with the number of runs broken off to the outside. Jordan is the type of DE that may make All Pro without ever having double digit sacks. Good progress by him this year.

fixed, hangover glue in my paste cup this morning

not disappointed in Jordan but here's some DE news sure to stir up some...
Defensive Rookie of the Year so far, who ya got? I'd say the most favored right now is NE DE Chandler Jones. How'd they get that guy? Uh, the Mark Ingram pick they got from us (plus a 3rd rder to move up).

but this board says he sucks because he doesn't have 10 sacks....I am so confused!!!

Not saying he sucks but his overall rating is still negative on PFF because of his horrid pass rushing this year.

Man you guys sure are harsh on Jordan when. even while he's doing very well (relatively on this defense), you're blame has got to be at the OLBs when Shanle and Herring are in. They have no business being starters. I wouldn't mind them as backups to spell the starters, but the only reason they are there now is Bc of injuries and lack of other talent

All of negative talk about Jordan is very similar to the comments people used to make about Charles Grant. "If he can't get to the QB then move his slow, fat arse inside" and "He's really good against the run". But at least Grant was good for 5 or 6 sacks a year.
The best thing you can say about Jordan is that he doesn't get blown off the line of scrimmage and he can string a blocker out to the sidelines. And that's really good to have that half of your job description fulfilled.
But you can't be considered a good DE today if you can't get to the QB and he just hasn't shown the speed and set of skills required. Under two different DCs he's only produced a sack a piece we can't blame it on scheme. He's big, slow, and his only pass rushing move is the bull rush. He's a DT yall.
I just wish people would stop making excuses for players who underperform and just call a duck a duck.

Bottom line, he is built for a 3-4 DE not a 4-3.
That was his position coming out of college and it still is...
That said, he has shown a lot of improvement from last year, and if Gallete and Tez continue to improve, I like our line going into the future
P.S. I think we should run a 3-4, we have the right personnel, but Spags doesn't run it.

we'd need 2 MLB's in order to pull that off.

Like Jonathon Vilma and Curtis Lofton??

What makes you guys think he was drafted as a pass rushing DE? It's the same goddamn thing as the Mark Ingram diatribe I have to read everyday on this board. Jordan wasn't really known as a definitive pass rusher coming out of Cal...16.5 sacks in 51 games.
My point is, the Saints should be criticized for not drafting the right player. Don't criticize Jordan for not being the player he isn't skilled to be. And don't blame Mark Ingram for not rushing for 100 yards a game when the Saints might run it 15 times a game and can't run block for shite, and run the same goddamn play for Ingram everytime they call his number.

Regardless, I like the Jordan pick a lot. We're not going to have Smith much longer, id bet not after this year, and you can't roll with Wilson and Galette as your ends because teams will run on you all day. Jordan provides some beef.

He ain't terrible at rushing the passer either.

I just wish the Saints could disrupt the opposing offense's pass attack regularly.
