Here's his reply:
Hello and thank you for your note.
Thank you also for being a fan of Charter 8, much appreciated!
The handle was removed from Charter 8 as part of a brand overhaul. The previous bottle was decidedly old, tired, cheap looking and not in keeping with the 8 year old whiskey inside the bottle. In creating the new bottle we wanted to replicate the design of the liter and 750ml bottle which has much more character.
We looked at the handle question closely and decided to go without a handle, in line with other competitive brands i.e. Jack Daniels, Evan Williams, Makers Mark. Simultaneously, we also introduced a lightweight PET 1.75L bottle, which is becoming increasingly popular on more expensive brands in the event that anyone had an issue with the new bottle. At this time we have no plans to add a handle back to the glass 1.75L, sorry.
I very much appreciate your taking the time to write and hope you will continue to be a fan of Charter long into the future.
Cheers for now,
Mark.
What a load of shite. Obviously they changed bottles to cut cost. Cost that were not relayed to the consumer. If Mark thinks he can get over on me with bullshite reteric like this "The previous bottle was decidedly old, tired, cheap looking and not in keeping with the 8 year old whiskey inside the bottle." well then he's got another think coming

You tell 'em, Balls. It ain't like you just started drinkin' whiskey yesterday...or last night...or the week before...or...

cheap looking
He's got a point on this one. If they're trying to market as a premium brand, which they are trying to do, then they don't put off that image with the old bottles.

Pretty fancy pants prosin' balls. Write Mr. Mark back and use the term "ergonomic" several times. Using that word might give you a decided advantage by showing him that he ain't dealin' with an udeducated and "old words" sort of feller.
Good luck in this endeavor, but in case it doesn't work, the switch to Evan Williams was semi-painless for me.
