Verlander is a terrible postseason pitcher

This was a common statement last year, based on an extremely small size )2 playoffs) against obviously good teams. Now that he has given up no runs in 16 straight innings, can that silly statement be put to rest?
In fact, can we put all statements about players being "choke artists" or "clutch" to rest when it is based on small sample size?

There is the rain issue last year against NY. Kinda fricked things up. BUT The TIGERS win this series in 6. book it.

It's the playoffs. Sample sizes are small.

So maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions about a players ability to be "clutch" or"choke artists" based on them?

The funny thing is he's really only had 1 bad post season start (game 1 of the 06 WS)

And that was my fault...I went to the game.

Agreed. But some performances are "clutch."

Verlander was a different pitcher then than he is now. He had inconsistent tendencies. This thread is stupid.
Different player, different times.
Different player, different times.

Wait, so last year when he was MVP of the league he had inconsistent tendencies, but now he has grown? Because it was last year that the "Verlander sucks in the post season" comments were prevalent, not 2006

I forgot he sucked last year too.

Its a myth that he sucked last year.

He didn't suck but he wasnt himself.
He had 1 QS coming into this postseason in 8 starts. Actually 8 games started is a pretty large sample size for playoffs.

Nah he sucked..... Allowed 3 or more runs every game while goin 8 only once..... 5+ ERA in 4 games
Allowed 12 runs in 20.1 innings.......
Not what you need from your ace......
5 runs in 9 vs Yanks
7 runs in 11.1 vs Rangers

I don't think anyone takes predictions from you seriously anymore

so basically he's been a disappointment
a guy like Colby Lewis has better postseason numbers

Pretty much. Should have benched him for Porcello against Oakland in the ALDS. He just didn't have it last night.

Prior to this year 8 Post season starts, over 5 series; never had a ERA below 5+ in any of those 5 series.
let's see what he does in the next series or two?
