Makes the band look worse IMO. The reason the band's upset is because Neck was as fun to play as it is to hear.

The students will never get it though. Neck is gone forever I'm afraid. We're gonna have to get used to Gangnam Style and Lady Gaga I guess.

Wait, so the older fans that are now complaining about the students these days are the reason Tiger Rag isn't played...seems hypocritical to me.

I don't get it. LSU band is hands down the best band in the south yet not respected by their own students.

Perhaps they recognize the error of their ways and are warning this generation of students to not repeat their mistake. No shame in that.

Not exactly true. I'd say that the GBFTL is one of the most repected bands in the nation. The students just get carried away and want to do their own thing at the band's expense. That's where some disrespect comes in.

In no way do I support the students and I know it makes them look like a bunch of idiots, its wrong and vulgar to do that when little kids are around. I wish they wouldn't do so LSU could bring back the full version of "Tiger Rag" along with "Neck". But these are 18-22 year old kids who think its cool to say "dick" or "arse" or whatever.
But you actually believe that
you truely are stupid.
They may have told you or band members this but your a fool if you believe it.

Google what kind of authority the FCC has when it comes to vulgarity during certain times of the day. If LSU is heard saying that @ 2:30 or in prime time they could most certainly be fined. Why is that crazy to you? Verge Ausberry addressed this last year. CBS had to stop putting the mic in front of the student section because of it and CST complained too.

Why is that hard to believe? I'm sure the network wouldn't be happy with people telling them they could hear curse words on the broadcast of the game. Fine or not, there was probably some trickle-down from the network all the way to the band telling us to stop playing songs that are most prone to have curse words added.
By the way...don't call people "stupid" and "fools" if you can't spell.

So how does Million Dollar Band play Rammer Jammer? I'm guessing "hell" isn't considered vulgar.

I still miss the band playing "Tiger Rag" after the PATs. Student section got that one banned years ago for hollering "a-hole, a-hole" at the Alabama crowd.

As one of the "old" fans around (but not yet a grandpa, at least that I know of) I sat right next to the band when I was in school in the late 70's. What a great time we had and never even had to add profane words to songs. We said them, yelled them etc.. but not to the songs. Never could figure out what sense a-hole a-hole made during Tiger Rag.
A friend came to a game with us and he had been to games all over the country. He thought Pregame and Tiger Rag were two of the greatest things he had seen. And they were. Now, one of them is gone. Maybe the student section can figure out how to STTDB into the Pregame so we can lose that as well. I am all into having a great time but does adding that to songs enhance the experience?
Hats off to the greatest band in CFB and thanks for the memories.

It's not and if you can't tell the difference then I don't know what to say.

Why don't they threaten to fine Wisconsin for their student section chanting "Eat Shiite! Fyuck You!"

Because it's a pregame thing before the TV cameras are rolling. They used to show Neck all the time on TV.

Literally everyone has it wrong. The band doesn't care about the morality of children hearing the cheers. We don't care of the students do the cheers- you just can't do it to the songs. The SEC has rules against a band leading a vulgar cheer. If the students want to scream STTDB, go ahead- just not while the band is playing. The second something vulgar gets put to a song, we're not ALLOWED to play it because the school will be fined. Chant whatever you want, just not while we're playing. Those songs would still be played if people could keep their mouths shut for the duration of the song. Of course, the only reason anyone wants to hear Neck is so that they can yell STTDB
All of this. I hate that we can't play Neck anymore. Neck was instant momentum. All we had to do was play Neck after a defensive stop or after a bad play, and suddenly our fans and team were fired up and ready to take the game over. However, the students were idiotic and immature and made a decision that lead to the removal of a key weapon in LSU's arsenal, the ability to manufacture momentum out of thin air (something almost no other team has).
Why couldn't they chant obscenities when the band played crap like Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, and Gungnam Style (I know it's coming)? No, they had to destroy LSU's secret weapon, and it will be gone forever. I firmly believe that had the band been allowed to play "Neck" during the National Title game at key times, it may have been just the spark to lift us to victory.
