They had the ability coming in.
WR's run poor routes and can't get separation, QB's have issues reading the defense. This is a pretty common problem we have seen for years. Reuben being the exception.

You should change your name to Thomas Dumbass. Mett is running an offense that is very predictable. With a running game that is getting stuffed. Receivers who are dropping balls. A beat up offensive line that can't block. And the reason the Tigers lost was what? JJ couldn't hold his jock strap when it comes to throwing.

It's the coaching staff.
I don't disagree here. My point is that it's a combination of a lot of things. Coaching, oline play, RBs, WRs and yes, even Mettenberger. The offense is bad. But if you put Drew Brees back there, I think you would see some much different results. So don't say "no QB would be all SEC" with this offense. Why do you think the great QBs hardly get sacked? You think they just always have the best Oline in all of football? Geez.

Keep pointing the finger at every qb that plays under miles, in an attempt to shoulder the blame on someone other than the HC. fricking idiots, it's not mett
Posted on 10/9/12 at 10:12 am to ThomasDunson
Ok Thomas, I don't fricking know. But I have enough sense to realize that I'm in sales, not coaching football.
I also see Mett getting rocked, and receivers dropping passes left and right. Those are things that I know won't be fixed with a change at QB.
I don't see Mett throwing balls in the dirt. I don't see him throwing into double coverage. He plays within his ability from what I see. And I don't suggest a change at QB because neither of the other guys have the experience.

And what's even more troubling is that we don't have another QB we can turn to. We simply don't have a legit backup QB.
Whoa...timeout!
You said you agreed with Thomas Dunson that Mett should be benched, then you throw out this little gem? Do you want LSU to lose as badly as possible?
Mett isn't great, maybe not even good right now; but he's definitely our best option. All of this speculation about his leadership ability is just that, speculation. Yes, he needs to learn the speed of the game and develop better awareness. His speed isn't going to change, so the coaches need to account for that. Otherwise, if his receivers would catch half of the balls they've dropped, his completion percentage would be approaching 70%. That's outstanding.
My guess is those of you that are criticizing Mett right now are the same ones that thought he'd be the "Mettsiah" and compete for the Heisman 2 months ago.

Are you saying that LSU just recruits shitty offensive players? If you think about it hard enough, your answer is in there somewhere.

Manning was sacked 22 times
Over 16 games. An average of less than 1.4 times per game. Mett the Tree has been sacked 15 times in 6 games (not sure if his trip and falls are counted). I am not going to compare Peyton the rookie to Mett the first year starter. The point of the discussion is somebody who thinks that a good QB (Manning) is "immobile." He's not.

Huh? I've never said to bench him, and that is simply because we don't have anyone else to turn to. And that is sad. I don't think Mett is very good, and on a normal football team I would hope there's another QB you can turn to. But I don't think LSU has that right now. Therefore, we have to roll with Mett. But that doesn't change the fact that he's not very good.

To this I ask you to explain why, during the Towson scrimmage, he struggled to be consistent (including numerous overthrows of receivers). Please advise.

Tolliver and Lafell had their own issues at LSU. Early hasn;t been on the roster in years and played under a different system most of the time he was here.
In the past couple of years, the offensive philosophy has overreacted to a few problems and become a quagmire. It's a death bed for offensive players right now.
Why do you think we have lost so much top flight talent at WR before they even sign the LOI?

JJ was sacked more than 30 times in '09. Is he a tree?

Not all offensive players are shitty. But I think we've certainly missed on quite a few or thought some were much better than they really are.
But I also strongly believe that offensive success is highly dependent on the abilities of your QB. And J Lee, JJ and Mett have proven to be very average QBs at best. And blame then goes to the coaching staff for choosing these guys.

Unless you mean "but I do see him throwing into triple coverage," you need to spend less time in sales and more time watching games. He could have (and probably should have) been picked at least 3 times at FLA. At least one of which -- an out to the right side -- involved throwing into double coverage.

It's the development.

To a certain degree, yes. Many less talented QB's than Mett are succeeding in college football right now though.

You are getting warmer.
They didn't come in to the program that way

He stood there like a tree that season. He held the ball, held the ball, held the ball. It was painful to watch.

No, last time I checked he was human. But in 2009 he was a very tentative QB. I am not continuing this debate with an arborist, so have the last word and have fun banging your head into the brick wall while you wait for the "Mettsiah."

That would be you, Lou Holtz...since you brought up the tree argument.
You aren't continuing because you don't have an argument.
