Unfortunately, no he's not.
ETA: We always tend to think our players are much better than they really are. Mett is the classic example.

Dunson, you have no way to know any of that.
Looks like? Come on, man. If you were a witness in the box in court, you would be torn to shreds. What exactly do people who down shooters at Snorkels "look like"?

1) Reference mobility. Can you think of any good QBs that are not very mobile? If not, you fail.
OK, Shorty, tell me one great QB who cannot move in the pocket, whether it be the ability to avoid pressure, step up or to the side or do something? Tell me one even average QB who cannot do anything but plant his feet in one place and wait to throw.

Reference offensive struggles
The rest of your post indicates to me that you have only a superficial understanding of the game of football. Who cares that our QB plays dress up and clowns on gameday right? What does that matter.

Zach Mettenberger on gameday.

Thomasdunson for worst poster of the year! You seem to know as much about football as a Tulane fan..

Opinions are like assholes... And everybody who's opinion differs from you (not picking on you Dunson) is an idiot.
That's the central truth of this site. Everyone's an expert and an idiot at the EXACT SAME TIME.
It's like matter and anti-matter combining, but I digress.
My opinion is that this year's LSU team is hard to watch, like 2009, 2008, 2004, 1999, 1998, and everything from 1989 thru 1994.
The offensive ineptitude, the undisciplined play, the predictable play calling, and the inability to adjust are what I don't like.
I don't know what the answer is. I'm not a football coach, just a fan.
I will still watch the games like I always have but with lowered expectations. For example I fully expect USCe to stomp a mudhole in LSU's arse and walk it dry on Saturday night.
Nothing I have seen on the field this season leads me to believe otherwise.
If LSU wins I will party and celebrate, but I sure won't expect it. Last year was a fluke, not a new normal unfortunately.

Doc, just curious, but what do you base this on? Did you watch him in H.S.? Did you watch him at Butler? What -- save his arm strength (Jamie Howard, cough) -- convinces you that he is a "very good" QB? I am genuinely curious.

Amen, brother. And from the looks of it it is just going to get harder. Agree with 78% of your post -- only thing I disagree with is the new normal. We WILL be back on top soon.

Are these facts/stats made up?. Played one season at Butler Community College leading him team to an 11-1 record and a berth in the JUCO National Championship Game ... His team finished year ranked No. 2 in the nation ... Started all 12 games at Butler, throwing for 2,678 yards and 32 touchdowns with only four interceptions ... Connected on 176-of-299 passes for a 58.9 completion percentage ... Rated as the top-ranked junior college quarterback for the 2011 class by multiple recruiting services

This tells me a helluva lot more about you than it does him.

Thomas Dunson... fwiw... I agree with you.

1. Is it "fine" that the quarterback has ZERO mobility?
Dan Marino and Peyton Manning have/had zero mobility. Nobody should be asking Mett to run a spread option offense.
quote:
2. Is it "fine" that when handed the keys to the offense against Towson, we struggle to consistently move the ball?
Towson defenders said after the game, "We knew they wouldn't try to pass the ball. The only pass routes we were running in that game were quick slants, or deep out routes. The corner could use press coverage and not feel threatened by the deep ball.

3. Is it "fine" that from all outward appearances, including sideline interactions and his on field presence he appears to (a) have few friends on the team; (b) has the respect of none on the team; and (c) looks like he'd rather be downing shooters at Snorkel's?
The coaches have "put him in the corner" on the sidelines. That's a coaching isssue, not a lack of Mett wanting to be with teammates. Some posters on here that were at the Florida game commented that he was communicating with teammates between series.

4. Is it "fine" that on gameday, his decision-making tells him that it is a good idea to play dress up and post the picture to the world?
Perhaps a legitimate complaint
quote:
5. Is it "fine" that he has zero leadership skills, and certainly provides none to the offense?
It's hard to have leadership when the coaches don't trust you to lead the team (see Florida series starting at the 7 yard line right before half).

My question to you is how many of the other QBs have you seen practice? Or take meaningful snaps? It's IDIOTIC to say bench Mett when you have no clue about the other QBs except for how they performed in the spring game and youtube high school highlights.
Idiots try to talk about things they know nothing about. You should look in the mirror before calling others out.

Same here. It's kinda weird so many LSU fans are so hesitant to criticize Mett. Everyone else is fair game, except Mett. Strange really.
The painful truth is that this offense is horrible right now. Can't run the ball, can't throw it, can't catch it and can't block. And the offensive scheme and playcalling are somewhat laughable. I think everyone has to see this. And if so, there is a certain amount of the offensive struggles that fall on Mett's shoulders. It's so dissappointing because we thought he would be really good. I had no idea before this season about his mental makeup or his footwork. Now I know.

Two words for you buddy: Ryan Leaf.
If you need more, see also David Klingler, any Texas Tech QB, Akili Smith, Ricky Clausen, Rick Mirer.
If you need still more, and want to get really obscure, see Robert Marve, Josh Booty, Ben Olson, Kyle Wright, Jonathan Crompton, or Mitch Mustain.
If you still don't get it, you are stupider than you sound.

Yea but they have/had phenomenal pocket pressence and field vision/awareness. They move effortless in the pocket - very subtle, but very key. Mett does not have this at all. Marino, Peyton, Brees, Brady, etc all drop back very quickly too. Mett seems to have an extremely slow dropback. This is killing us too.
