Not in Texas anymore. In my shooting, the dudes were in the street in front of my house (not even on my property). Cops just shrugged and said "oh well." Heck, the turds didn't even have any of my property...they had my neighbor's property. I didn't go to Grand Jury, heck, they didn't even take my gun.
Here's where a store clerk shot a beer thief in the back outside the store. No arrest.

Again, didn't even go to the Grand Jury...that's just a line they give the media to get them to shut up and and go away.
Dude tries to run off with a taco stand's tip jar, the owner shoots him in the back with a .357 and kills him.

Absolutely nothing happened to the shooter. Totally legal.
And there's no civil issues either because they can't get anything anymore. An attorney will require the perp's family to put up at least $20-30K cash up front before even trying to pursue the case.
Here's a good story about how Texas citizens have more leeway to shoot bad guys than cops do. Also shows how our justifiable homicides are going up (this is a good thing).
