He seriously called the IFR after he saw it was uncatchable.

Excuse me, after he saw it wasn't going to be caught. Or when it was uncatchable because neither fielder was in a position to catch it. Tard

I'm not arguing with a "tard" that asked how an infield fly can be called in the OF. That ball should have been caught. How about don't give up 6 frickING RUNS if you don't want to lose.

If the infielder has a legit chance of making the catch its infield fly. Don't know if that was the case but that's the rule. Don't let anyone tell you other wise

quote:The rule protects the team batting from a cheap double or play. That is, if the 3rd baseman has a routine pop up, he could intentionally drop it, then turn an easy double play by stepping on third and throwing to second. The rule calls the batter automatically out, and if the ball is not caught, the runners do not have to advance.
Why punish the team batting?
Of course, the umps took a royal crap on that rule in this instance.

For those who didn't see the call. This is the moment the umpire started to put his hand up to call infield fly.

when the fielder is running away from the ball
Nice call ump!
Nice call ump!

quote:Yep. Sorry, there's no infield fly rule that deep in the outfield. That's not one or two steps, it's 8 strides. Horrible call. All they have to do is admit they fricked up, reverse the call, and all's well. But NOOOOOOOOOOO. It's baseball. We're old school.
