Fans Opinion: Harper at Linebacker

There are usually 3 or 4 fan opinions that remain prominent until the the situation changes. Currently I would name the longest lasting one as "Why is Shanle still starting?"
The Roman Harper Sucks train has plenty of momentum too no matter what your opinion of him is. Most all of us at one time have wondered "Why not try him at linebacker?" OLBs have been a weak spot and he is great in the box. Has there ever been another DB that led his team in sacks? He has more sacks than any other DB in the past several years. It made some sense but positional changes at the NFL level is quite a major transition to cope with for both the player and team usually.
I had a little hallelujah moment when noticing #41 lined up as a LB last week. It was likely the result of the LBs turning into a MASH unit. IAQ came in for 29 snaps having them both on the field at the same time (with Jenkins too).
I'm glad to see Spags experimenting and mixing it up. When you're 0-4 with the worst ranked defense in the NFL whaddya have to lose? I'm neither a RH fan or hater in his on-field performance. I do have a problem with his contract and the lack of bang for the buck that this could possibly answer.
Bonus glimmer of hope- Shanle was only in for 57% of the defensive plays

He can't be worse than Shanle.

Thats somthing i noticed also, looked like they didnt move him to Lb until the late 3rd and most of the 4th quarter. I personally like the move especially against teams that are pass first offenses.
I herd Larry Holder on the radio yesterday talking about this and he was saying the same thing we been thinking, shanle and herring are just way to big liabilties in coverage to be on the field

Herring was supposedly good in coverage and a good special teams player when we signed him.

Its not a bad move really... he's clearly good near the line and rushing the passer which is exactly what you want from a LBer.
Try it a little more i say. whats it gonna hurt at this point?

He can't get washed out of plays any more than Shanle or Herring anyway. I'm all for it.

Move Harper to OLB (Try to add as much muscle as possible in offseason)
Sign Dashon Goldson in FA
Draft best pass rushing DE

Even though there were several self inflicted wounds by the GB offence in the 2nd half we still held them to only 7 points. This will not go un noticed by Spags.
He's not done by a long shot moving guys around. As you said nothing to lose at this point. Also helps evaluating who goes and who stays next year.

I've said for years he should move to LB

He is good in run support and better suited to cover tightends.

I've always said that if we would find a dominating SS in the draft or FA that they would most likely move Harper to LB. He is at his best when hes up near the line and working on stopping the run and covering slow TE's. I like the idea of him there. If you go back and look at the GB game when he was at LB in the nickel, he wasnt making these game changing plays, but you didnt hear his name getting called on plays where he was beat or anything. I dont think that move could make anything worse but we need someone to take control of either the LB or SS position.

How about a 3-4 defense that looks like this...
Jordan at LE, Bunkley at DT, Smith or Gallette at RE
LB's from right to left, Tez, Hawthorne, Lofton, then Harper or Gallette outside
Thoughts??

D-line is maybe OK.
But Our LB's are putrid except Lofton.
Done with the rest of em.
Just a bunch of good back-ups.
Wish I thought different.
Someone today posted a pic of Lofton glaring at Herring(the rest of our LB's) as if to say, "you really earn a paycheck for playing NFL football?
Great pic.

Mark of a good coach. When the status quo aint working, you change the status quo.

He sucks. Period. At the price tag and thievery he hits our team with, we don't need him.
I've long lost any hope for Harper. We really need to cut ties with many guys this offseason. Will Smith, Sedrick Ellis, Harper, and Shanle all need to go. Hopefully that frees up a ton of cap so we can resign Graham and get some goddamn defensive talent...
I hope we're at the point on Harper's contract where we can release him...

This and its from a Cowboys fan. Some of yalls linebackers make me question how they even made the field, just like some of the Cowboys O-Line...

Just because he has a lot of sacks doesn't mean he's a good pass rusher, it just means he rushes the passer a lot.
