yeah, thats the difference in a 7th round pick and a 1st or 2nd

I don't see it.

Hester went third round.

Cecil Collins went fifth round with all of his baggage, and having been out of football for a period of time.

TM is a special teams player, and defensive specialist in the NFL. Not an every down type of lock down corner. I love the way he plays. Great hands, incredible ball skills, etc., but I don't see teams using 1st or 2nd round picks on him. Hope I'm wrong, and hope next season he drastically improves his draft status, but not IMO.

I honestly think a team would use a third round pick on him in next year's draft, as is, if in good standing off the field.

if tebow can get drafted in the first round, TM7 should have no problem getting drafted in the 2nd-3rd round

Red,

I just wanted to take a second to thank you for what little tid bits of info you have been able to provide us here on the board.

You have been right on the money, and even the info you are providing as your opinion/assessment of the situation has been spot on. IMO

I'm sure its been said in one of the million threads on the topic, but I think this whole situation has served as a massive wake up call for TM. The old (but not as old as VC) saying hold true, you never know what you got until its gone. Football was his ticket to a better life, but this has served as a very humbling reminder to him that it won't just be handed to him because he can force fumbles, or because he simply has football instincts that are unique and cannot be taught. He still has to play by the rules, he still has to work for his goals.

Sometimes when things come so easily to people on the field, they loose sight of all the off-field things they need to do RIGHT to set themselves up for success. I've seen it happen to several people I have been in a football program with.

What stands out to me, is in all the situations I have had personal knowledge of and observed myself... RARELY (if ever) do the individuals make the right decisions following a dismissal (or whatever their individual situation was). Unfortunately, more times than not the decisions that follow their removal from their sport take them further down the wrong path.

The simply fact that TM7 has made the tough decisions tells me all I need to know to root for the kid. Regardless if he returns to LSU's football program or not, I hope he can stick to his current path.

Sitting out a year of football won't get him drafted. His best shot at being a high round pick would be to come back another year and prove he can do it on and off the field.

I disagree.

The NFL draft is more about physical ability and potential, and less about college production. Look at Janoris Jenkins from UF. All-SEC corner with tons of talent who got kicked off the team after numerous legal issues. The end result? He dropped from a sure-fire 1st round pick all the way down to the ........ 2nd round! Sure you could argue that Jenkins didn't sit out a year, but do you really think his one year at N. Alabama against lesser competition made much of an impact on NFL scouts? They saw all they needed to see regarding is physical talent/potential in two years at UF.

I like Mathieu. I can't remember a more impactful player at LSU on a game to game basis. That being said, I don't think returning to LSU next year will do anything to improve his stock, unless by returning he grows 2-3 more inches taller and gets 0.2 - 0.3 seconds faster. If he wants to come back simply to play with his friends and teammates then that's great, but the NFL doesn't need to see anything more to evaluate his on-field ability/potential. As an LSU fan, selfishly I'd love to see him back, but I just don't see it happening

And that's fair reasoning. At least you present a valid argument.

You wrong, tho.

i agree with your reasoning but i think what tm7 needed to prove on the field is that he is, in fact, a pretty good cover guy because thats the "knock" on him. all of that being said, there is always a team out there willing to take a risk. al davis is dead so we will see

Certainly not arguing, but I think he needs to return and play next year and then go, IMHO.
