Came across this guy in the Texas Rio Grande Valley the other day while hunting.
Any ideas? I have never seen anything like it.

looks coachwhippy, though I've never seen one sit still for a picture. Usually they are hauling arse away from you. They're in the racer family so they can GOOOOOOO!

We have coach whips in south texas or a snake that looks identical to them.

It looks quite mamba-ie, but I've never seen one that color. So, I was thinking eastern brown snake, although I'm not sure they have such keeled scales.

if you saw the back half you'd know whether it was a coachwhip. Unmistakeable.

It was wicked long, 8 or 9 feet easy

Pretty sure it wasn't a coachwhip

I could narrow it down faster if you'd tell us which zoo.

We decided to leave quickly after this. I don't deal with snakes.

Texas mamba. Very rare. Said to frequent squatch caves.

You made the right decision. Better look behind you to make sure its not following you. The Texas Mamba is known to do this.
