I realize this could go on other boards, but figured the Outdoor Board was best.
If you've read it, I'd like to know your thoughts or any comments you might have on this novel.
If you liked it, please suggest another favorite book of yours (since we'll probably have somewhat similar interests & I'd value your opinion over most others). Doesn't have to be the same genre or a similar style book either, fwiw......

Realy good book. I'm a native Floridian so I enjoyed the history aspect. It was a great story and showed Florida as it used to be a, wild and untamed land. You should read The Springcreek Chronicles by Leo Lovel. It's a series of short stories about hunting and fishing. Leo now owns a seafood business and restraunt in Springcreek but he used to be a mullet fisherman pre net ban.

It follows a few generations of a family that pretty much settles Florida. They are original Florida "Crackers". Pretty much just some tough arse cowboys. It was a pretty easy read and I couldn't put it down. It was kind of sad because it showed how beautiful and wild Florida was before it got completely commercialized.

I'm going to check it out
We need to start a outdoor book thread. It's tough to find good books to read sometimes.

There's a few of them, he was a badass marine sniper in vietnam, and he was the first person to use a .50 as a sniper round. Held the record for longest confirmed kill with any weapon, and did it with a browning 50cal modded to hold a scope, like a boss.
eta; nice, which one first?

1 shot 1 kill published in 1990
93 confirmed in 2001
Silent warrior in 2003
That's the order I read them
I'm trying to remember the sniper book I read last summer about an american sniper in Iraq. It was fricking awesome. I will find it and let you know
Edit: its not American Snipe by Chris Kyle cause I'm reading that right now

Best Book I've ever read- by a long shot.
As for others, you should check out Cajun Mariners by Woody Falgoux.
A FL buddy gave me A Land Remembered and I reciprocated with Cajun Mariners- he said it was good as well.

Yeah, OP should change the title of this one since we already started.
Here's two I like. Both are centered around falconry, but are about the outdoors in general. Most non-falconer's enjoy these books a lot.
The Rites of Autumn
Equinox

Hogs in the Shadows: Combat stories from Marine Snipers in Iraq

Sounds good. As soon as I finish this damn MBA I'm gonna start reading again.
Recommendations:
Lone Survivor - Amazing book about a Navy Seal who was sent out to kill a guy. His group gets ambushed and he's the lone survivor. Afghanistan, around 2004
Generation Kill - Rolling Stone report embedded with First Marine Recon Unit on the push to Baghdad for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Stupid good book. HBO made a miniseries out of it after the book. Read the book first
One Second After - best book I've ever read. Unbelievable how good it is. Fiction. Premise is that a nuke was set off above our atmosphere that triggers and EMP killing all electronics. Society gets fricked fast. Everyone should read this book.
