I feel like the pocket has been collapsing a little too fast for the competition that we have been playing. I guess it will be something to look to get better at this week at Auburn. Also, i think bama is having some pass protection problems too

It needs to improve. Period. But not too worried at this point. Everyone in the nation has some phase of their game that needs to improve.

Dworzyckiczk did have some problems with the speed rush off the edge. Should be correctable.

when you play your 5 year old cousin in a pick up game of basketball, are you gonna be running picks on him, dunking on him? probably not.

you dont play your best ball when you play a little guy. you play your best against good competition.

have faith, you must, young padawan.

Well, it doesn't help Mettenberger stares WRs down and takes 6 seconds to release passes. No offense but he's going to get slaughtered if he doesn't adjust this part of his game in SEC play. Not saying we're great at blocking right now but he isn't helping either. And he better learn to throw the ball away. I don't think I've seen him toss the ball away yet...that's not good.

I said this in Josh D first game at LT. He only looked good because he had TE help blocking the edge with him. He's not a LT. Period.

Psst. It's 2012, not 2011.

might as well bite the bullet on Vadal Alexander now. 2 stone footed seniors aren't going to suddenly learn to pass block.

What the frick does that have to do with anything? Mett stares WRs down and he doesn't go through progressions. That's why he keeps holding the ball too long. He's waiting for that WR to get open and getting slammed because of it. When he's under pressure he doesn't throw the ball away either. He tries to make plays. That's not going to work against better defenses in the SEC..

If he doesn't get some better field awareness soon he might not make it by the meat of the SEC schedule.

at last a brave man steps up and reveals that the emporer is not wearing clothes. i am most concerned about mett for the exact same reasons you mention. he has thrown 2 ints in triple comverage at or near the goal line and should have thrown it away both times. but the staring down the wrs and holding the ball forever means to me that we'd better get rivers ready. he is going to be the LSU qb soon.

You be mad

My comparison of years was to point out the huge increase in passing ability. Also, when has Mettenberger stared down a receiver? Both his INTs were just bad passes.

Yes, Mett needs to improve. He even said this in post game comments.

But quotes like yours above are what make the rant, "the rant."

Well, the offensive playcalling is another problem. If LSU needs to stack one side with WRs in shotgun since he stares WR down. 3-4 WRs on one side and 1 opposite. That will shorten his field vision because they're all running routes in similar areas. It lets the defense move to one side, that's the negative. But I've seen many OCs do this before with a college QB who stares WRs down and have plenty success with it. If you have guys running short, intermediate, and deep routes, they can't cover them all. Even with a defense flowing to that side of the field.

You seriously didn't just ask that. Apparently you haven't watched any of these three games.

Yes. All three. When has he forced a ball after staring down a receiver?

not sure if you are comparing me to some of the idiot posts here are what. but if you think an SEC qb that stands in the pocket as long as mett does will last 12 straight games w/o an injury you have a short memory. you don't have to claim my opinion is idiotic and dismiss it just because you disagree. i like mett and think he is an improvement and has the raw materials to be a damn good qb. i think he has an nfl arm but i am disappointed that he doesn't throw the ball away when necessary and that he doesn't take care of himself a little better.

Les Miles is thinking about switching Hurst to LT and putting Vadal Alexander to RT. He said as much in his interview with Emily whatsherface.
