There will come a time when the run game isn't working. I don't want Mett to feel uncomfortable because he's been grooming his handoff.
yes, he looked so uncomfortable last night...

Now we have Metteneberger, a prototype NFL thrower and a guy who probably, in hindsight, should have been playing last year. It’s hard to second-guess Miles’ decision to play his maddeningly inconsistent duo last year; they won the first 13 games of the season.
He must not post on the Rant. I don't have any problems second guessing LM's decision to play the joke that he kept trotting out there, especially last year, when we clearly had better alternatives.

Mett was spot on 17 of 18 times. from my perspective, his timing, decision making, arm strength, and accuracy were all top notch. obviously the receivers collectively had a bit of a down night, but it's game 2 and i'm sure they collectively will improve w/ time. 18 more passes in garbage time to 4 or 5 different receivers wouldn't make any difference -- it's the hundreds of reps between games that will.
Is the point of all this to actually develop a dependable passing game, or is it to put up gaudy passing stats?

How many games has Les Miles won? And how many has Matt Hayes won?
Yeah, I thought not.
Yeah, I thought not.

That hit last week, might have been a blessing in disguise. Protection was better, mental processing by the QB was better, pocket presence was imprtoved...He seems to be developing nicely. If trends continue, good things ahead.

The truth is we got lucky on November 5th last year. We had a backup qb who came in cold off the bench and ran the option for us to win. Mett needs to be comfortable by throwing the ball 30 times a game or more from here on out till November 3rd. I want to still run the ball consistently but let's face it we have an NFL bound qb and we need a balanced O to beat BAMA.

You don't have to throw 30 if you're accurate.

Bring Mett along comfortably
Agree...and safely as possible.
A "hog wild" passing attack is just silly when you have a rush attack like ours. I'm not saying I wouldn't like more yds throwing the ball or that we will never need to pass it to run it, but let's give Mett some time to learn the team/starter role before we ask him to go "hog wild" just for the hell of it.

There is just no point to throw it that much when you have the best running game in the country. It would be irresponsible.
Posted on 9/9/12 at 9:55 am to luvdoc
With our run game, even Spurrier would be happy throwing it just 20 times.

We can beat any team by running it all game, but we cant beat Alabama playing like that. Every game from hear on out should be in preparation for that game i.e. Mett needs to start slinging it more.
I know we are all scared since we have not had the best quarterbacks the past 4 years. I am too. But Mett is the real deal and he can make any throw. We need to trust Mett now, so come November 3rd Alabama wont be able to keep up with us.

Anyone bitching about the strategy last night is a sad sad individual.

Totally agree. There is 1 team LSU needs to be preparing for and all the kinks need to be worked out of the passing game before then.

Just like Saban. Hmmm? The best two teams in college football have "painfully conservative" coaches. I say again, hmmm?
wrong, alabama does throw the ball. They burned us both games especially the NC game with a potent passing attack

Bama has been/is a very fine college football program that LSU has a 5-3 record against since 05 and 3-3 since 07.
We seem to be finding ways to beat Bama a hell of a lot more than most lately.
Each to our own, but I am more concerned with beating Aub right now, something we have done on the road like once in our last 6 tries, than beating Bama in Nov.

running into alabama's front 7 is like running into a brick wall. As good as our o-line is they dont get much of a push against Bama.

the game plan last night is exactly what it will take to beat Bama, if you think you're going to beat them by airing it out, you're nuts.

Haha. That probably had more to do with us trying to run down the clock. Still made me laugh, though.
