...The Oregon Ducks

quote:

Any discussion about controversial BCS national championship games would be incomplete without a mention of the notorious Oregon snub in the 2001-2002 season. More than 11 years later, that game remains a sore spot with all Oregon fans, and is unquestionably the automatic response for most-lopsided or uneven BCS National Championship matchup.

I'm not gonna say the Ducks didn't get jobbed that year.

But this is pretty damn funny stuff.

quote:

In the 4th quarter Oregon again went to the air,Harrington finding receiver Keith Allen for a 6-yard touchdown. Miami was desperate, trailing now 41-16 in front of a stunned capacity crowd and millions of viewers shocked around the country watching the complete dismantling of the team that was being talked about in the media as being among the greatest of all-time.
Miami would score again, a hail mary heave on the final play of the game, with receiver Andre Johnson out-leaping Oregon’s diminutive Rashad Bauman for a 45 yard touchdown, but the effort was futile. Final score, Oregon 41 Miami 23.

Oregon, a trendy preseason pick out west but not that of as a legitimate candidate when pitted against the might of the SEC or ACC, proved everyone wrong. Not only did the Ducks win the national championship, but did so in demanding fashion, bringing home the University of Oregon’s first football national title.

Enjoy

Agree Nebraska had no business being there, but no one was going to beat Miami that game

Thrashing CU was good enough for me.

Pac 12 and especially Oregon fans have such small dicks when it comes to the SEC. They have to bring up the SEC, which wasn't even involved in the controversy, in their hypothetical scenario, and take a shot at it.

6-5 in 2001, but we beat heavily-favored Auburn 31-7

10-3 in 2002, won the west, but on probation

That makes us National Champions in my book. Print the t-shirts.

No shame at all in that season.

Only loss was to a Stanford team that finished 9-3. That's better than the loss Okie State posted last year by losing to Iowa State.

But still not as bad a jobbing as what a one loss K-State team was subjected to by getting demoted all the way to the Cotton Bowl. In light of what happened to that Big XII North champ (and Big XII title game loser), the Nebraska debacle was all the stranger.

That Oregon team were gamers.

And Harrignton was a pretty damn good college quarterback (Pac 10 player of the year) despite his pro flub.

They lost one close heartbreaker to Stanford (9-3) - Stanford was down 42-28 to start the 4th quarter.

(but no, they weren't beating Miami.)

Sounds like a run of the mill Pac 10 game.

Never lacking in offense.

As long as they were focused and motivated.

They had two games that year which showed they weren't invincible. Two games preserved by Ed Reed.

Boston College 18-7 (Miami led 12-7 and Boston College moved to the Miami 9 in the final minute before Ed Reed picked off a pass and returned it for a final TD.)

VaTech 26-24 (VaTech receiver couldn't hold onto a two-point conversion in the final minutes and then Ed Reed again picked off a pass to seal the victory.)

It was worse than that... not even the Cotton, the Alamo

If you go back and look at KSUs scores from that 1998 season, they pretty much raped everyone that year up until the Big 12 Championship Game. Michael Bishop was unreal.

Miami would have blown Oregon out of Pasadena just like they did Nebraska.

Really didnt matter who Miami was matched up with that year, no one was going to touch them. Too fast, to talented, and too deep. Greatest college team IMO.

Miami/Oregon would have been a skull fricking.

How you gonna keep Joey down on the farm after he's seen Karl Hungus

Besides Oregon didn't even get hosed as bad as Miami the year before. If it wasn't for that and the phantom interference call against tOSU, Miami might of 3 peated
