How long did it take you guys to decide to pick up the books again and reread after your first reading?
It's been over a month since I'm finished and I'm kind of wanting to go back at them up again. I was going to wait until we got closer to the next season, but I don't know if I can wait that long.

Ned had no intention of Jon's heritage coming out period, it's not like he was going to try and usurp his buddies crown. He was just trying to keep his sisters child safe, not create a secret heir. There would be no need for paperwork, and Rhaegar would have thought he would be back after the battle, not be writing paperwork for who knows to find. He didn't even have a child when he left, how would he be leaving paperwork about him?
Exactly. If Ned ever planned on it coming out, he would have never sent him to wear the black either.

But Ned told Jon that the next time he saw him he was going to talk to him about his mother. And there's the dream Bran has that he sees Ned and that he's sad and wants to see Jon. So I think Ned had some intention to tell Jon. Although telling him after taking the black is shitty but I don't think Jon would immediately leave and go usurp Robert and fight a war about that.
And if you notice on the show, Ned looks like he's tearing up when he promises Jon to tell him. And GRRM told Sean Bean who Jon's mother was so he could act out how Ned reacts to Jon's question. I am 99% certain Lyanna is his mother and I think the main reason why the fever dream was left out is because it would make Jon's parentage more obvious. Even when I was a Hodor watching season 1, I suspected there was more to Jon's mother than Wylla because of how Ned reacted in their conversation. Reading the books solidified R+L=J for me.

I read the first 100 pages of the first Malazan book and realized it wasn't doing it for me. I went right back to AGOT and read through the 5 books almost as quick as the first time.

Ned was going to tell Jon because he deserved to know. Rhaegar was very intelligent and would not have gone to a major battle without documenting his plans. He was obviously planning on taking the crown from his father and the note was more than likely legitimizing Jon and naming him next in line after Aegon. When it is revealed that Young Griff is a Blackfyre, Jon will effectively be the heir to the realm.

I think a very underrated Blackfrye element is all the Houses that will rise up for Aegon when they know who he REALLY is. Half the realm fought for them in the rebellions.

He might have been legitimate, Rhaegar could have married his mother. I am curious if R+L named him.

Perhaps Jon = named after Connington.
Which would make the Aegon Blackfyre/Jon Connington arch all the more tragic.

I think GRRM confirmed that Ned named Jon.

Especially since Connington is on his way out with the greyscale. Would suck to give your all on your deathbed for a dream and realize that you've basically set up the enemy.

I think you would see a lot of minor houses. Most of the ones that declared Blackfyre were greatly reduced. If Dany comes back around the same time it will be Clash of Kings all over again. I still believe Blackfyre is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. The Dragonknight and Naerys...

I could definitely see GRRM doing that as part of his bittersweet ending with JonCon.

Jon is named after John Arryn, but that was by Ned, per Davos POV chapter.
Curious if R&L planned on another name, since the White Bull did say that 'Aerys will sit on the throne again', while it could be symbolism or it could have been his given name.

he didn't, misremembered he said
Ser Gerold said, “or Aerys would yet sit the Iron Throne, and our false brother would burn in seven hells.”
always thought it was for & not or

I see JonCon figuring it out and Varys killing him over it before he's able to tell anyone.

I wonder who will kill Varys...I think he'll die in book 7 for sure.
