Jon Connington will reveal that Varys was the one who had sewn dissent between Rhaegar and Aerys; Dany will attempt to kill him with Drogon's flames but the fire will not kill him revealing him as a Blackfyre
Huh, I had forgotten this. One of the biggest reasons for my thoughts on Tyrion's secret lineage is the way its been setup for the dragon's themselves to reveal a secret Targ. Revealing Varys as a Blackfyre would actually fit that just as well. Although I don't think he would be immune to dragonfire, the dragons just wouldn't harm him.

All credit goes to PaperCutNinja for this, but I think this week's episode solidifies it, Varys must have Targ blood, most likely Blackfyre. When considering where he's from (where the Blackfyres fled after their respective rebellions), his shaved head (hiding silver hair), and, from this week's episode, the sorcerer in the box. Why would a sorcerer want some random kid's body parts? Whose blood makes for the best magic? Kings blood! Why was the guy in the box's mouth sewn shut? So he couldn't tell anyone who Varys really was. Thoughts?

Yep, Targ/Blackfyre are basically the same.
It would not be a surprise.

I think that if I was Varys, there's no way I would keep that sorcerer at King's landing if he knew I was a Blackfyre or worse yet, a Targ. Mouth sewn up or not, that is a hell of a chance to take. The old adage "dead men tell no tales" seems appropriate here.
And there is absolutely no way I'd tell that story to someone who might put two and two together with the royal blood, etc.

Varys is not really a eunuch but the second coming of Ossifer Plum, which explains his extremely loose fitting outfits.
Under his robes is the true lightbringer which, in fact does give off heat when unsheathed.
He will wield this sword to defeat the others in the final parts of the story.

Bluegrass or Iluv could really climb aboard this theory...

I've been absent from this thread for a while, but has the "Lannister Honeypot" theory been discussed? The books pretty much seem to confirm it as true. Thoughts?

In the book the girl's name was Jeyne Westerling, a family loyal to the Lannisters
I think there was a Westerling/Lannister (moon tea) conspiracy in the book but I don't think Jeyne was complicit in it because she was really in love with Robb Stark.
In the show, she's some medical worker from Volantis that could be secretly sponsored by Tywin/Lannisters as a spy, in which case it's safe to assume she is complicit in the conspiracy.

Yeah in place of Jeynes mother (possibly magically) manipulating Robb into falling in love with Jeyne and then selling out the Northerners to Tywin and the Freys, Talisa is just going to be a Lannister spy who Robb fell in love with (whether this was the plan all along or not I'm not sure) and she's been updating Tywin on Robb's movements and will eventually lead them to their demise at the RW.

To be honest, I don't really see either theory (her mom involved or her being a spy) as adding a whole lot to either books or series. I think the main thrust about this whole thing is the Bolton's betrayal along with making the Freys even more unlikeable.
I guess it could add a little to the view of Tywin's abilities as a schemer and to Robb's naiveté. But after awhile, just getting twist on top of twist gets kind of redundant.

Yes, I agree its over the top and redundant, but it kind of reinforces that in this series you really can't trust anyone except yourself.
In the "Lannister Honeypot" one part shows that Roose may recognize her as a spy. This in turn may be the catalyst that leads to him betraying them after realizing Robb will lose this war when he's so blind he can't see the enemy right in front of him, plus the benefit he may gain from joining Tywin (Winterfell & control of the North).

In my re-read I came across a very interesting passage. When Tywin tells Tyrion that Robb has married Jeyne Westerling, and Tyrion is incredulous. He makes a comment along the lines of: "Could the Westerlings and Spicers be such fools to believe the Wolf can defeat the Lion?"
To which Tywin responds (with a slight smile): "The greatest fools are offtimes more clever than the men who laugh at them".
Certainly seems to imply that (at least) Gawen Westerling was part of the plot.
To me, the importance of that whole thing is to show that you'd better have more than just an army to take down Tywin Lannister. He is a master of political maneuverings.

Yep, it's also sort of confirmed in AFFC when Jaime is meeting with the mother and discussing the "understanding" Jeyne's mother and Tywin had.
But I'm pretty sure Jeyne had no clue, just the mom. The mother discusses on of her sons getting caught at the red wedding, and that the son had no idea about the understanding with Tywin.

The mother's mother was an old crone of some sort that people used to come to for potions and elixirs....particularly love potions.
The books note that Tywin had the mother give Jeyne "moon tea" to prevent a pregnancy. It is not a huge leep to assume the mother gave each of them a love potion as Jeyne was nursing Robb back to health after his injuries in the west.
So yes, it is my belief that Tywin sowed the seeds for the Red Wedding months earlier when he had Robb and Jeyne given love potions by her mother. I believe he just seized opportunity when the Freys and Boltons agreed to set up Robb at the Frey - Tully wedding.

AKA Maggy the Frog who gave Cersei her Valonqar prophecy. And yeah, pretty sure that's how it went down.

The mom or Grandmother was Maggie the Frog?....LOL!
I never put that together.

Heh, yep. Maggy was a maegi from across the sea who married the Spicer grandad, and the Jeyne Westerling's mom was a Spicer.
