Arya trying to rush inside The Twins to save her family was pretty sad. You knew what was happening inside and knew there was nothing Arya could do. It was also pretty sad when she had a wolf dream and saw her dead mother.

Forgot about that, that was a moment where the Hound really showed his potential to be a changed man down the road.

Just read the Arya-Twins chapter again.
frick the Freys, seriously. I can't wait for them to be obliterated at Riverrun in the next book. If Hosteen dies and all the Freys get killed by the Brotherhood in Riverrun they will have been completely wiped out.

I came very close to peeking ahead to see if there was another Arya chapter just too see if she was ok.

A sad chapter on a reread was when all of the Stark kids were at Winterfell saying goodbye to each other, talking about how much they love and cannot wait till they see each other again.

Yea Jon giving Arya Needle, knowing what was in store for the family, was a pretty heartbreaking moment.

Just finished S1E2 w my bf. After Jon gave Arya Needle, he goes "he's one of the good characters, isn't he?"

ASOIAF has very very few "good" characters but he'd have to be one....

Hell he may be the ONLY one.

Well, he is the only one who is still alive.

Him and Sam Tarly.

I could throw Barristan Selmy in that list as well I think.

Barristan Selmy

The last honorable man left in the book, IMO.

I fear his days may be numbered, though.

I don't think he'll outlive the series but I think he'll be there for the end game. He'll die but it'll be honorably with steel in his hand defending his queen. Just like a man like Barristan Selmy deserves.

I think he dies in "final battle" though. GRRM has pounded the fact that he is one of the best knights to ever live in our head too much, everyone who had a chance at beating him is now either dead or has no reason to fight him.

Jaime - no way he could ever hope to defeat Barristan left handed

The Hound - is of the faith now he has no reason to fight him

Victarion - is begging allegiance with Dany and offering her a navy.

Areo Hotah - Dorne is more likely to be an ally than an enemy, not real sure he could defeat Selmy anyway.

Blackfish - Isn't good enough and wouldn't even try.

The latest one we saw who had a chance imo was Oberyn Martell and he is dead now of course.

No, Ser Barristan The Bold will die fighting Winter embodied in the flesh. The Others will get to him, no normal man has the ability. Not any of the ones left anyway.

I think he is done in by some nefarious Meereenese plot.

There is no sword that will defeat him... it will be treachery. He will give his life in defense of Dany, of that i have no doubt.

Hmmm... maybe he ends up fighting Jorah.

That would be the only way a normal man could kill him but I think GRRM will give him a nobler death than that.

Plus Barristan is too observant. He has spent his life as a Knight of Kingsguard. His whole life has been observing and noting suspicions. He already fricked up and let Dany almost be poisoned I don't think anything similar to that is like to happen on his watch again.

That fact was sealed for me the moment he cut down two pit fighters half his age with ease. I mean he didn't even break a sweat he just flat out destroyed them.

frick I hope not. I really like Jorah and I'd hate for him to die or make me hate him by killing Barristan.

Although once again I don't think he is good enough to kill him in single combat.

He has always had the interest of others in mind when he does this... how often does he think of his own safety?

C'mon man... GRRM had Robb ambushed and his pet wolf's head sewn onto his body.

Jorah is a man in love. Jorah isn't above treachery... but i don't see a reason for him to plot against Selmy other than to regain the trust of Dany... but killing Jorah wouldn't exactly make Dany happy... so.

He is basically King Regent over Mereen right now. I think he would say that protecting one king is no different than protecting another. Although I will give you that that is a very good point and Barristan's only weakness is what lurks within the shadows. Thats not his game at all.

Yea but looking back he told us over and over and over that Robb wasn't going to make it. We just overlooked that in our first read through. He was constantly compared to Ned, then the marriage to Jeyne, we all knew deep inside that he wasn't going to make we just did a damn good job of ignoring it.

See I give Jorah more credit than that. He grew up idolizing Barristan Selmy and striving to be a man like Barristan Selmy. He is a flawed knight but a knight none the less. He left Longclaw remember? He still has a sense of honor about him. I think if he goes after Barristan it will be an honest fight, face to face steel on steel. Though I don't think that happens because like you said, killing Barristan won't exactly spread Dany's legs for him

Which will make me hate her even more.

I think Barristan at least goes down fighting no matter what happens. In complete badass fashion.

No doubt. I just hope we get to witness it from his POV.

But GRRM hates me so we'll probably hear about it in one of Dany's chapters while shes fricking Daario on the back of Drogon whose just chilling on the beach with 10,000 Dothraki screamers roaming around with nothing to do.
