Asked if he'll ever tell which character is Dunk's descendent. Got a rather acerbic, "I gave a pretty strong hint in the new book," to which I sheepishly replied "Yea, but I read it real fast, in three days."" I told him I suspected Brienne but thought that she was too obvious and that he'd be more subtle than that and he said, "You think?" Coy bastard.
Yea its Brienne she had her shield painted almost exactly how Dunks shield was. A shooting star over a tree

6. Tall, hard, stern men with beards in fur and chain mail forcing a captive down on his knees. A white haired woman killing the captive with a bronze sickle. [Is this another hint that there is a connection to the Targs and Starks?]
I took that as being the First Men making a sacrifice to the old gods.

Not sure about the numerical significance but remember, Bloodraven was known for having a weirwood bow.
Bloodraven it is then.
BR also ended the first Blackfyre when Daemon and his twin sons were killed by BR's archers. Thus the 3 weirwood arrow?
Also, something that I found interesting about Bran's visions in ADWD - they appear to be a reverse timeline of events.

I agree. Interesting that it is the red god getting the sacrifices now. Does this tie them together somehow?

Very possible....
But what was Bloodraven doing in Winterfell?
Its obvious he worships the old gods... at least later in life, but once again how and why? What made Bloodraven the way he is. He is the most interesting character in the series by far.

I've noticed that too looking back at it.
Now that I think about it, maybe it ISN'T Bloodraven. Bloodraven was albino with red eyes. Egg on the other hand was described as having dark eyes though. Maybe it's Egg instead? If they're headed to Winterfell it's plausible that he learns to shoot a Weirwood bow there.
Even though it could still be Bloodraven (and that's who I'd probably throw my lot in with for now), it's possible it's someone that hasn't been mentioned yet. Maybe someone older then Bloodraven.

Yea I don't really think we know enough about what happened in the North in years past to really speculate on the meaning of those just yet.
We'll have to wait until the next D&E novella and WOW

Anyone know anything about this? I was searching for when the next D&E Novella was set to release and found this. There isn't any info really on the site but there is clearly something going on with the production pictures.

Something interesting I read in relation to that last vision. Apparently the First Men used a lot of bronze. Also, we know that ASOIAF is based loosely upon the War of the Roses so there's some precedent of GRRM pulling from European history. Someone on Westeros who is from England mentioned that in PreEuropean history there are stories of "Kings of Winter" who sacrificed people in order to end the winter season, especially if it was a long one.

I hadn't seen that before. Interesting. I'm gonna see if there's anything about it on Westeros.org

The first men used pretty much all bronze which is how they defeated the children who used obsidian then came the andals who came bearing steel and that is how the First Men were defeated in all but the North.
My first thoughts regarding that vision was the first men sacrificing humans to end the long night.

Doesn't the Stark line go all the way back to the Age of Heroes? Brandon the Builder was a Stark, no?

Thats the legend and what the Starks claim... whether thats true or false no one knows but it is common belief that Brandon the Builder founded the Stark line

I believe their line dates back to the Stark Ages.

frick yeah, I've been gone for a few days and come back to get this little nugget. Crazy how some one liner excites me. So, was Dunk given Starfall (that is where Brienne is from right?) by Egg?

also sam tarly refers to longclaw as dragon steel
Dragon Steel is just another term used for Valyrian Steel.

As NIH said, Brienne is from Tarth. Which isn't too far from Summerhall, where Dunk and Egg go quite awhile down the road (per their ASOIAF wiki).
I think Dunk could have multiple kiddos though and it's possible that he got jiggy with Old Nan (producing Hodor).

She is from Tarth and as far as I know Dunk has never owned any lands he was Lord Commander of the Kingsguard when he died at Summerhall so I'm pretty sure he never had any lands.

While possible I find it doubtful...
I think Hodor has giants blood in him.
