What will be interesting in this new development is if Vilma agrees to settle. I'm hearing he won't. He's coming after NFL with force.

Vilma said when the appeals started that he will not accept any punishment. Now, he gets to put his money where his mouth is.

This if anything would just be reaffirmation of what he's been doing all along. The NFL just offered him a plea bargain and this is the perfect chance to blow this shite out of the water.

If I truly believed I was innocent, I would say this:
I want a public apology stating that I did not participate in a pay-to-injure program, that I didn't not offer 10Gs for Farve or any QB nor did I put any money up. I want no suspension and I want my head coach back. Do all this, and I will drop the suit.

Why would they settle?
Not sure if this has been stated yet, but it's possible that the NFL is attempting to settle because they don't want to out their sources, which they would have to do in court.

close but no cigar...the NFL does not want Vilma to be able to DEPOSE and CROSS-EXAMINE their source under oath, i.e. ask him exactly what he said, when, to whom, why, and based on what. The NFL has shown that it will stretch "evidence" to the nth degree and they don't want Vilma to be able to publicly debunk their bullshite.

NFL's Greg Aiello: “Today’s report about a settlement offer by the league to Jonathan Vilma is completely inaccurate. No such settlement offer has been made. We will continue to respect the court proceedings on this matter and have no further comment at this time.”

I forget the guys name, but he was fired after the 09 season for leaving work under false pretenses and was given a SB ring with fake diamonds.

According to author and filmmaker Alan Donnes, Cerullo is the man who blew the whistle on the Saints’ bounty system.
From 2007 through 2010, Cerullo worked as an offensive line assistant, a special teams assistant and as an assistant to defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. He also helped out with scout teams and breaking down film.
Cerullo was let go by the Saints in 2010, and reportedly had trouble finding work. According to Donnes, Cerullo believed that Williams, head coach Sean Payton, and others in the Saints organization made a concerted effort to block him from getting another job in the NFL. Eventually, he would find a gig as an offensive consultant to the University of Miami, a step down from performing quality control for a team that won the Super Bowl. (Cerullo currently works as a program aide for the UConn Huskies — here’s his bio on the UConn website.)
