re: Where does Nolan's Batman rank on all-time trilogies?

The Great Dictator won a bunch of academy awards didn't it? As good as it gets was a comedy. Comedy is treated as unimportant, but everyone will remember dumb and dumber. No one will remember "doubt" or "milk"
ETA: Personally I feel like the sci-fi genre is what movies are all about what they are made for and yet even a good sci fi movie is rare nowadays.

I have never seen The Great Dictator but I have seen As Good As it Gets. It was okay...but...not as good as everyone says.

I'm sure you could but I don't watch too many comedic films. I have a great sense of humor but, ironically enough, I never got into the comedy genre.
Lieutenant Hauk I presume?

You've never seen it because it's frickig old as dirt. I've never seen it but it just shows you there used to be a higher respect for comedy in the industry. Even the Greeks felt comedy was an important aspect of theater, and they pretty much invented drama
BTW as good as it gets is really good IMO

It was made in 1940. I've seen films like Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington that are older.

You're arguing with me about why you havent seen it instead of responding to the real point. I wasn't saying you definitively haven't seen it because it's old. I'm just making fun of how old it is
And congratulations, you've seen 3 of the most critically acclaimed movies of all time.

Except that Iron Man 2 sucks

I dont understand the argument that Batman had 3 great movies while the godfather/ SW only had 2
Batman Begins was an average movie good at best
How can anyone say Begins was better than Godfather III or Return of the Jedi or any of the Indiana Jones films.

Second or third time now that you have added absolutely nothing useful so why not just not come to these ranking threads?

I think all three of those comparisons are debatable. I don't consider BB to have the same aspirations as Godfather III - but it was a well made movie and probably came closer to achieving what it set out to do than the Godfather III did.
If we judge movies based on their subject matter (as most seem to do when they dismiss comedies as possibilities for best picture) then I don't know why more people don't talk about documentaries being the best movies ever made.
The reality of documentaries like Cocaine Cowboys, The Fog of War, and Waiting for Superman at least debatably makes them more serious movies than even exceptionally crafted dramas like the Godfather or Citizen Kane.

Because its ranking the trilogy not the individual movies.
And if you want to get into it, the last two (of the good Indy movies) weren't anything special and neither was ROTJ. Begins might not be special either but it is more than fair to say begins is better than or comparable to any of those movies
As far as godfather III goes, there is an endless amount of movies that are not as serious, that are much much better

It's up there with the original Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones trilogies. Gets the nod by default over The Godfather because of Part III.
I'd put The Karate Kid on that list for nostalgic purposes.

Lemmie give this a whirl.
1. Godfather (First two movies are good enough to drag that POS of an acting performance by Sophia up).
2. Star Wars
3. Indiana Jones
4. Batman
5. LOTR

Who cares of the Godfather III wasn't all that great....
The fact of the matter is the first two are possibly both top 10 ALL TIME. IMO the first film is the greatest in cinema history.
Putting Batman over The Godfather is simply

Anyone care to give me a quick non-spoiler primer on this one? I'm into foreign films, but there are certain genres of movies that turn me off.
