Mostly because the scapegoat as it stands is going to be gun control instead of movies, video games, and etc.
This.
Tipper Gore won't make a comeback.

Anyone care to address about my concern about China on Hollywood?

We're in an abyss, Brah. Only P.T. Anderson can deliver us.

In a way it should. Guns are too accessible. Also how did this unemployed kid afford all those guns and explosives?
There is no coincidence why countries like Canada and the UK don't have all this gun violence. The second amendment has done more to hurt, rather than help the nation IMO.
Racist.

No.
This freak is a domestic terrorist. He had at least most of this planned for a long time.
Who knows if it was for the release of this movie, I honestly don't believe that has anything to do with what he did, as diabolical and disgusting as it is.
He knew there would be a big crowd of people there to see the movie.
He went there to do one thing.
He could've done the exact same thing at a 4th of July fireworks gathering, in a Mall when Santa is there, etc.....
He went to where the crowd was, nothing to do with movies.
My prayers are with those families effected by what he did and I pray that Colorado sticks it to him in every way, shape, and form.
Absolutely disgusting to call him an American citizen.

Lindsay Lohan will do something stupid, or details will come out in Tom Cruise's divorce or something brand new but equally banal will come along and our brilliant and ethical media will just move on.

Bumping this to show how much of an over-reaction this was.

It still wouldn't shock me if this happens and Hollywood asks for less or more cartoony violence than there has been previously. Sandy Hook was even worse than this, and lawmakers are blaming everything from movies to video games to the lack of God in school. I'm not really worried about well established directors like Tarantino, but up and coming filmmakers may have a problem.

Yet in your earlier post you said you wouldn't be surprised if they edited Django Unchained.

That part may have been a bit of an overreaction, but between these shootings and China becoming as powerful in the film industry as its become, I do think we'll see a noticeable decrease in realistic violence in film over the next few years.

I get that China is becoming a larger market but don't you think you could be biased in that thinking due to the fact that you live there?

what a damn bump.. holy hell.. a little early if you ask me though, we are still 2 - 3 years away from anything that could happen to cinematography in relation to what Landshark is talking about..

I would say OML makes some good points. The public is mostly made up of Neanderthals, so long as there isn't an opportunity cost, they'll keep pumping out the crap. Is there really a large demand for great movies?

Yep. We're not going to see the effects of it for at least another 5 months, if not longer due to the Sandy Hook shite. Most of the summer films have already wrapped up production, and are in post-production. We're already starting to see China nosing into our films, but they started on it years back. Bump this thread in two years and lets see how they compare.

Well, last year was a pretty good sign in that most of the shitty movies like Battleship and That's My Boy bombed. Can't think of anything particularly atrocious about last year in film.

Even Gangster Squad's reshot film was still violent. Instead of a movie shooting it was replaced with a concert shooting (Boom Chicka Boom scene).

I feel like the bar for the movie going public is pretty low while it is pretty high for the gamers

Still though, if they toned it down, especially since they wrapped up production before the Aurora shootings, it would have likely clashed with the tone of the film and been obvious to everyone that they toned it down due to those shootings. They don't want us to catch on too quickly.
