Nah, no hard feelings. Just don't like harsh words toward my childhood favorite.
Anyway, idk how anybody could vote against Goku in that scenario.

One last thing, but surely everyone think that Goku's second son's design (not Gohan) was just downright lazy. I can't tell the difference between him and Goku.

They went with the look of Goku from Dragon Ball.

I'm aware, which is why I'm saying they half assed the design. They just said make him identical to Goku and went with it. I don't think many could tell the difference between them. It'd be like making one of Aang's children look identical to him.

There were a few differences. He was a little thinner and his face was more round than Goku's. But yeah other than that, Goten looked identical.

I agree they could have made a few minor changes to his character design, but it's easily recognizable if you watch and pay attention to the show.

They have their differences, as you can see.

I had a close friend as a kid who was hardcore into it, but I just never could get into it. Ive watched probably 90 or more episodes of it due to him, and it just jever resonated with me. It was just way too slowly paced and had way too much filler for me to get into.
I was a big fan of Batman at the time, and just loved how fastly paced and well done that show was. I may have been spoiled before seeing Dragonball, which may explain my resistance to it. These days I just think Avatar blows DB out of the water. I just can't think of a scene in that series that comes even close to this on every single level:
Wan vs Vatu

Avatar is pretty cool, just haven't seen much. For me, Dragon Ball will always be on top in my opinion. There's nothing out there that will take it's place, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying other shows.
Forgot to address this, but I used to watch the shite out of Batman the animated series.

It's kind of just how the way that DB and DBZ is designed. There aren't really any distinguishing characteristics sometimes to the simplistic art of the animation. Hair is just an important distinguishing trait to who the characters are and to let you know who Goten is. It's also nice that it homages the original DB in a way.
This simplicity from the characters to the overarching themes of the story lines is a lot of what made the series great and relatable.
There are certainly some flaws in how a lot of the series went along from how the dragon balls ended up getting used for death to become meaningless to the use of power levels with everything just getting to the point of ridiculousness and not really making any sense to the gratuitous use of filler. But I think that DBZ is great despite these and because of these. The true DBZ fans can look at this stuff with a sense of humor and a good bit of nostalgia. There's still a lot that I think DBZ did right.
The flaws are hilariously made fun of in the Team Four Star Abridged Series, and I think that it takes a true fan of the series to really get all of the jokes that they make. I'd recommend them to anyone who hasn't checked them out yet.

If you were a fan of Batman, then try Avatar. Once Justice League was cancelled, this series took a ton of animators, writers, and storyboard artists from the JLU series (which includes Batman). It's on the same (if not superior) level of creativity. They claim to have 4 series planned, and we're on the second right now, which is going to get even better. Highly reccommend it.

While I disagree with some of what you say, I'd say this is a good post and defense of the series.

This deserves to be printed on a wall scroll, and hung next to my collection.

I plan on it. Batman is up there in my top 3. Probably number 2.

Honestly, that's my biggest one with this series. I remember it being a huge deal that someone goes Super Saiyan, and then like 5 characters are able to do it, and not only that, do a more powerful form of that. The thing that is so great about Avatar (which I highly recommend that you start) is they are incredibly specific on when and how characters can achieve certain powers. The Avatar State can only be achieved by the Avatar, and its incredibly difficult to master and they go into great detail why and the setbacks of it. Waterbenders and Firebenders powers are influenced by celestial objects, and their positioning depends greatly on how powerful they are in battle.
They cover their bases well, and I only think DBZ made them more powerful solely because they don't know how they would top the Frieza Saga, which is where I think they should have ended it. It just seemed that everything built up to that, and everything after is merely pointless.
Posted on 11/2/13 at 7:58 pm to OMLandshark
They had to make new threats more dangerous than the last. The base of the Saiyan race is to fight and become stronger. That's exactly what they do in DBZ. It's explained throughout each series how each character's power grows. After Frieza, Dr. Gero wanted revenge on Goku for destroying his Red Ribbon Army during the Dragon Ball series.

That was the initial plan. The creators wanted to stop after the Frieza Saga because Goku reaching the legendary Super Saiyan stage was supposed to be the pinnacle of the series. There was a huge demand for more episodes after it was revealed Goku was still alive so they agreed to it.
