in the market for a meat grinder

looking to buy an electric meat grinder for home use. will be using it for ground meat, sausage and boudin making.
have done some research on both the Cabela models and the LEM series.
anyone have experience, good or bad, with either of these brands (and if so, which models specially). any other brands people would recommend (or stay away from)?
how powerful a model should i be looking at for general home use? looking to stay under $250 or so, which doesn't seem like it will be a problem at all, but don't want to skimp on a grinder that isn't going go be powerful enough to do basic jobs.

Do you have a Kitchen-Aid mixer? If so, just get the attachment for it.

i do but i'm looking for a stand-alone. the reviews i've read are very mixed, particularly with power and the ability to effectively fill casings.

What about a used commercial model, I have no idea on price...

I have one of the smaller cabelas model. It's works well for small stuff. I have made link sausage once and breakfast patties a few times. The most I have done is two pork buts at a time and I had no problems.

I have a LEM and the kitchen aid attachment. The LEM is by far the better option.
The biggest difference is the ease at which to clean it. The LEM is easy the KA attachment can be a PITA to clean correctly.

Get the most powerful commercial model you can afford. It'll last longer b/c the motor won't have to work as hard. Also, commercial models are more versatile, i. e. larger assortment of blade sizes so you can taylor the grind to your needs/preferences.

Kitchen Aid grinder attachment works great, stuffer does not... way too slow. 5lb LEM stuffer is cheap (<$150) and works really well.

Ahh yea that was the other problem.. It was horribly slow.

LEM has a good reputation as does Weston, Hobart, and Waring. For the price range you quoted, LEM and Waring will be your best bets.

Anytime. I bought a refurbed Waring several years ago and that thing does everything I need. Either should do the job.
