What happened to the middle class? Maybe, there is a direct correlation between the decline of unions over the past 35 years and the decline of the middle class’s share of national income.
Or maybe the inflexibility of unions with regards to wages and benefits led to the downfall of American manufacturing and many middle class blue collar jobs disappeared?

I'd argue that Union greed and ridiculous wage/benefit structures for uneducated and minimally skilled workers robbed American companies of their ability to compete in a global economy. As a result, those "middle class" jobs you refer to have been shifted overseas. In addition, those Union practices increased the operating costs of those companies which is ultimately passed along to the consumer by means of inflated pricing. Unions are not only bad for business, but also bad for the economy as a whole.

I ain't mad at cha. Get yours and do you.
I think everyone here is all for rational economic decision making.
Just don't pretend that unions and the advantages they get under federal and state law are good for everyone economically.

and youll keep on enjoying those benefits right up until the union breaks the company - and then youll have to hope a liberal is in the white house to bail you out

Unlike the UAW ...my company won't need bail out. It's been here long before you and will be here long after you. Most Unions have very good contracts for both the company and worker. To ensure success for everyone. out of all the Unions one has a problem so all get lumped into that category? I'm sure if you were making union wages and benefits you wouldn't be against the union!

what about those who excel within the company and can't advance due to unions basing everything on seniority?
why would i join a group that prevents me from advancing and making well more than "union wages" ?

Because he's right and you can't win this argument?
Posted on 7/8/12 at 1:43 pm to fandyke
Lol... No you wouldn't, you'd have to ask the steward first who will then check to be sure you paying dues. Then he would go through an arbitration process and ultimately tell you it's not part of the bargaining agreement...
By joining a union you've acknowledged that your inacapable of thinking for yourself and are willing to pay someone to do it for you.
