I don't get why Griffin is a lock. He's not even a basketball player.

Looks like the ankle partnered with the lack of pro experience gave Blake the edge.

Objectively, I can't fault Coach K for going that way.

Can't really blame them at this point. AD can't practice but I doubt BG sees too much time on the court. His game doesn't translate well to international play.

Looks like neither Hornet will make it.

This is from an ESPN insider blurb:

quote:

Team USA has been ravaged by frontcourt injuries and that has helped Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin make the squad, reports ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

While it's not official, a source tells Stein it's "99 percent" that he will make the team.

That leaves Anthony Davis, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, James Harden and Andre Iguodala battling for the last two spots on the Olympic roster. A source tells Stein that Harden and Iguodala are the early frontrunners for the two spots.

funny that Harden will make the team over Gordon, yet Harden isn't making anywhere near the max. And Gordon bitches about us not respecting him.

do you think he's worth a max?

ETA: when i went to look up his contract, I misread and thought he was an RFA this season, not next.

It's the same situation with Gordon. I don't think he's a max player, but some team will pay Harden a max deal if he hits to open market just like they did with Gordon.

i really don't think some team will. i think he may be more along the 4/50 that gordon was offered initially.

There are too many teams that are in need of star players for him not to get one. Gordon got one based on playing 9 games, and it's debatable on who is the better player between he and Harden. Also keep in mind many believe OKC will not be able to afford 3 max deals along with whatever Ibaka gets, so a team could throw a max deal out there just to force OKC's hand.

it's sad who gets max deals nowadays. teams just throw them out there to see what sticks.

I totally agree, but that's what happens when all your top stars are on the same teams.

how many do they keep?? It's at 16 now. They had a big thing on my FB feed last night saying meet your Team USA team. I would have thought that would have been the final peeps.

They're only taking 12 to London, so if Griffin is a lock then there's only 2 spots left out of Gordon, Gay, Iggy, Harden, and Davis.

Still a chance to be Gordon and Davis out of that group, but I don't think Davis will go simply because of the ankle.

Yeah I think Gordon could make it, but according to the talking heads at ESPN, it will be Iggy and Harden for the last 2 spots.

quote:

Sources told ESPN.com that Griffin has been quietly added to that group as well, leaving five players -- Anthony Davis, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, James Harden and Andre Iguodala -- in contention for the last two roster berths, to be revealed following Saturday's practice session. One source said Friday that Iguodala and Harden went into camp as the favorites for the last two spots.
