Congrats on the new ride man.
You won't be towing the boat a lot or very long distances often I take it?
ETA: Also, don't go and try to tow 11,300 with that truck either BTW. That 11,300 rating is only for single cab/long bed + ecoboost + 3.73(?) final drive ratio configured trucks.

I have the ecoboost and pull a 28 mckee with twin 300's (about 10K pounds loaded) very easily.

Good to know. The old dodge Cummings is getting old. Don't really need a big truck like that again.
But need to occasionally pull over 10k

Dad just bought the 2012 Ecoboost and loves it. Drives from Tickfaw to Geismar for work and needed the good mpg. He pulls his bad boy and trailers his Goldwing but I'm still working on getting him to get a boat. It's a lot cheaper than ME getting a boat
I was concerned about the supercharger wreaking havoc on engine life but my buddy that works on cars said factory ones can actually increase it due to low workloads. Good purchase.

No, maybe every weekend every other month during summer to Tickfaw or Amite River (I work 28 & 28). I got the Crew Cab not the Super Crew. Looked at all the other towing on vehicles and this was rated highest but I wont be pulling that kind of weight. I am estimating 21-23 on highway, the Tacoma I just got rid of got 18 headed to TN so I figured I would get a full size, more room better towing and better fuel mileage.

I hope the ecoboost proves to be a reliable engine in the long run. I love the design of it.

My dad's FX4 gets btwn 18 and 21 on the highway. With my stepmom driving it, it gets 23.
She drove my truck from Mandeville to BR one time and got 16.5 though. I consistently get 12.5 on the highway

I'm definitely on this road!

Is that a 4x4 with the ecoboost?

Yup. He almost drives as fast as me on the interstate

My frontier gets good gas mileage for its time, but newer full size beat it.

Well, that's not a lot of weight...so it works well for him. The Ecoboost uses turbo's though, not a supercharger...but I understand what you meant. And your buddy is right to an extent...if you don't work the engine too hard, and maintain the motor right...it'll last forever. BUT heat is a turbo's worst enemy...and when you're towing those turbos are in boost. So they run hot and they make the engine use more fuel...that's why the ecoboost is good for people who tow relatively short distances and/or don't tow every something everyday...or every other day, etc. The unloaded MPGs of the eco are great...but when you hook a trailer up to it, it'll suck fuel just as much as a V8.

Got ya. Seems like you made a good choice. And you're pretty close with the tacoma numbers. You made pretty much an even trade-off...maybe a gain...in terms of mpgs and gained 100+ hp/tq at the same time. Nothin' wrong with that. Enjoy the truck man.
ETA: And just to add to the current conversation...pretty much all of the half ton trucks now get good mileage. The Eco gets around 22 on the hwy, the Ford 5.0 gets around 20, my 5.7 Hemi was getting 20 highway with 20" rims, and I'm pretty sure the GMC/Chevy gets 20 as well. Government won't let them get any worse now.

Except for diesels. They are purposely making any vehicle with a diesel get worse mileage and be more expensive to maintain. A good bit of them cant even be imported into the US

The diesel situation pisses me off sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much

Touche'.
It's funny too, because they are bringing over small diesel motors for the cars and SUVs...but regulating the crap out of the HD trucks. Buncha bullsh*t.
Posted on 6/27/12 at 8:45 pm to jordan21210
So why do turbos in diesels work great under load. They get hot don't they.
Don't understand the hate on gas turbos and not diesels.

Because a diesel motor runs cooler than a gas motor. Turbo's on a gasser are subject to hotter temps.
Posted on 6/27/12 at 8:55 pm to Nodust
Because a diesel can't run out of sight in a week without forced induction.
How necessary they are on a gas burner is debatable...
I'm a fan of superchargers, but that's just me.
