Perry Jones Consensus

I think it's a safe bet that he will be there for the 10th pick and maybe even further back if we decided to trade down. I think he could be a steal if he can develop into a sf and if anyone can light a fire under him, it's Monty. What does the HT think about the possibility of getting Perry Jones?

Pass on that and your name.

If I were an NBA GM I'd avoid players like this like the plague. They rarely, if ever, pan out.

Yeah, has skills, but has all the warning signs of a bust, hornets dont have the luxury of taking on a project

Would not want at the 10. I was intrigued by PJIII because I was hoping he could play SF, but reports from his workouts was that he wasn't hitting the mid range jumper consistently.

Are you a 19 year old girl or a Texas A&M fan?

Those reports were also made available from his college career.

I like Jones. Especially if we trade back a bit. He is uniquely talented, and a jump shot can be developed. Plus, I trust Monty to coach him up.
Most players drafted in the 10-20 range end up being role players anyway, so why not take a shot on someone who could potentially be a break-out type player?
Zeller is a back-up 5. Leonard, who knows. Rivers is an undersized combo guard. I could definitley be talked into rolling the dice with PJ3.

Yeah, I was hoping PJIII would ball out at the 3 in his workouts, but he didn't. I wouldn't be upset with gambling on him, but would rather gamble on his teammate Quincy Miller.
ETA: And by that, I mean trade back to #18 or so for Miller, not pick him at 10.

10. New Orleans Hornets
The pick: Perry Jones III, Baylor Bears
Now that Emeka Okafor has been traded, coach Monty Williams can make Jones his pet project and teach him the NBA ropes. Hopefully he'll get the guy that came alive against Kentucky in the second half of their regional final matchup and not the guy who sleepwalked through the first half. If the gamble pays off, a nucleus of Davis, Jones and Eric Gordon significantly speeds up the rebuilding process in New Orleans. -- F.F.

I think PJIII develops into a NBA stud.
His usage rate at Baylor was terribly low, and they played in an extremely slow paced style--complete opposite of the NBA.

One thing that no one ever questions is Perry Jones' talent. Just how rare and unique a player he is becomes immediately evident the moment you start watching him. He has a tremendous combination of size, athleticism and skills, making him appear to be capable of doing anything he wants on the basketball court. He shows terrific footwork inside the paint, has 3-point range on his jumper, can handle the ball fluidly from coast to coast, and is a breathtaking finisher around the basket.

I agree. He's more suited for the NBA. I wouldn't mind him at all

+1
I really just want a guy with star potential... The role players are nice, but this team doesnt need role players, it needs studs.

Not Monty's type of player. But I would be happy if we picked him up

One of the most talented players in the draft. Yea, his game is NBA geared. He has weaknesses for sure but his upside is ridiculous if he is put in the right situation.
