What was the most difficult artist or genre for you to acquire a taste for?

What was it that got you over the hump?

For me it was Frank Zappa. One night I watched the Classic Albums episode about Over-Nite Sensation and Apostrophe, then I was on board.

Artist - Bob Dylan

Took me a while to understand that his voice isn't about range but more about delivering his lyrics. Once I figured that out, I loved his music. I had to quit listening to the voice and start listening more to the words. It all connected at that point.

Genre - Psychedelic rock

I used to view this music as extremely weird and stupid. Once I heard stuff like Magical Mystery Tour, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Pet Sounds, etc. I changed my opinion.

Frank Zappa

See this is one I feel a lot of people might say, but I was immediately drawn into his music.

Rock and pop from the 80's and 90's. At the time I guess I would listen to the stuff but never really had an appreciation for it. Going back there is some good stuff that stands the test of time and is still fresh today.

Genre - I'm going out on a limb here as I'm not sure many of you will accept this as a traditional category of "Music". Dubstep. I'm a classic rock fan, I can hold a conversation with any LZ or Floyd virtuoso and I do enjoy listening to previously mentioned bands on here like Rush or Frank Zappa as well as prog rock bands like Yes or Emerson Lake and Palmer (my opinion of the prog.iest band ever) but currently it seems like everyone my age [20ish] is caught up in all the hype around bass drops and 'rollin balls'.

Skiffle would be a close second though
