Today was a bit better, only lost a pair of pliers this time, as I opened the life jacket pocket I had them in and they fell out, bounced off the kayak and into the water
However I didn't catch any fish today. Was going to go off the coast of Mission Beach but my rudder cleat broke off so I had to paddle to the shop I bought my kayak at to get it fixed, so afterward I just fished in Mission Bay. Didn't catch anything, was out there about 5 hours.
Anyone have tips for dealing with drift without an anchor? I was drifting(in the opposite direction I wanted to be in) all day today.
Not sure if I will go out tomorrow. I am pretty tired. This takes a lot out of you. We'll see in the morning. Going forward will probably just make this a once a week thing where I go early in the morning.

I plan my trips around the wind. Doesnt mean I dont go. I just go places where I hopefully wont have to fight it all day

Sorry I have a pedal rig so don’t have issues with drift but I used to have a quick deploy Cajun anchor system I’d use. Basically a light weight pole of some kind and I had a bungee that I attached a spring clamp to one side and my yak the other. I would stick the pole in the mud and then clamp the bungee to it. Would be easy to unclamp if I hooked a bull and needed to be free.

I never took mine off the rack on my truck yesterday. Drove to work with it up there.

I see that a good bit up here. More than I would expect based upon our waterways.

I just store mine under the carport on the trailer but I’ve seen pics of yaks melting, probably BS but with this heat who knows.
Hit Grand Isle to surf fish Elmer’s
was in the water around 5am found some nice trout but no big numbers like people were catching Friday
Was throwing matrix green hornet but croakers were the golden ticket if ya had em
Once the bite was gone I dropped the yak behind the “snake pit” off Hwy 1 and fished Thunder Bayou all the way to the end and went fish the surf again, they was gone unfortunately
Found a couple of nice reds in the bayou solid day, damn sure kicked my arse but will be back fo sho

Any recommendations for fishing West Cove/Big Lake? Might be going there in the next month or so. Anywhere a beginner could handle and catch a few reds?

few reds

If there is water in the marsh at WC you'll find reds. I tried twice this year and it was too shallow. I got stuck a couple of times. The Cove can be good, but very rough at times.

Joe's Cove may be a solid bet too. The launch sucks but its not too bad with a kayak. Marsh cuts, shells and rocks are all in that area so you can take your pick on how you want to fish it.

I'll be down at our camp in Cocodrie this weekend and looking for a good spot to put the yaks in for their maiden voyage. I was thinking put in at Coco marine and head north some into the ponds. Any advice?

Sorry, we all hate Cocodrie. Right DC, Uncle Jack, N08? Lol

I still flinch whenever someone mentions the C word.

The highlights were the snoring and the guy jumping in the cold water.

All in one spot, no other fish anywhere. Today was weird

Will probably end up at PAC on Saturday. Would prefer to go to Big Lake and look for Flounder, but it looks too dirty right now.
