I did learn very quickly that I'd need an anchor though for any real fishing or anything with a slow retrieve.
There are a few YouTube videos on how to make your own anchor trolley system. That's what I did. Works great and is nice to have when you just want to sit back and enjoy a beer.

i'm about to not bring my anchor anymore.
marsh anchor is what I use pretty much all the time

Did you buy one or make one. I kind of got one I rigged up with my trolley system but haven't tried it yet. Only bringing the anchor this weekend since I can fish marsh and open water.

This what y'all talking about? I'm not sure how deep the lake is in my hood so I doubt it'd work for me at the moment.
Posted on 7/24/13 at 9:15 am to s14suspense
Yeah, but for what those cost I could easily rig up something.

Absolutely, somewhere on this board someone recommended I get one of those green fiberglass garden stakes from Home Depot. I picked one up for about $4 and got a pvc T to go on top and put a couple screws to secure. I've very pleased with it. It's very light, has some flex to it and stays put in the mud very nice.

I have one made from white PVC and one made from an old broom handle.
Both work great.

Two weekends ago, I hit something hard with the motor and screwed it up bad. It has been in the shop to get a motor swapped from our other boat. I helped Ray at Front to Back Friday afternoon to try to get it finished and ready to roll for the Labor day weekend. Well we almost got it finished so I brought it home to finish putting in the gauges and couple of other things.......well somewhere in all the re-rigging we forgot to put the key in the boat so it was locked up in the shop. So having the boat for the weekend was out.
Going to the deer camp was iffy because I had to put up another utility pole last weekend and the leads were too short so I left it for a friend to do Saturday. and if the power company didn't have the meter in before that there would be no electricity for the weekend. That had way too many variables.
So the bride says let's bring Alden's kayak down. And see if you can borrow are rent another one. So that is what we did. Borrowed one from a buddy of mine and off we go. Libby has never fished in one so Saturday afternoon we put it in the canal at the camp and took them out to get her up to speed on it. Alden's Yak is not your run of the mill kayak. It is a 14' Hobie Pro Angler. There are quite a few bells and whistles for the first time yakaker. But it is very stable and she wouldn't have to worry about getting wet...
Here she is with her first Kayak Speck
She put it on be Saturday. she had two specks and two reds and hard head or two in the boat and had zilch. she rubbed it in all evening too!
Saturday I don't have any pictures of but it was quite an adventure. we trailered to the State Park on GI. We made a portage from the parking lot, up the ramps and over the dune and then 75 yards to the beach. Very taxing on us but we made it. I think we ended up with around 20 trout, lots of ladyfish and gafftops. I also caught 3 sharks. We fished until about 3pm and had over a 100 yard portage on the sand. We got some help getting the yaks up and down the stairs. WOW no more portages! If it is not 10 feet or less.
Sunday I was going to try to catch a 4 lb trout to try to get on the CCA leader board in the Kayak division. So Libby was going to fish with some friends in their boat and they were going to pull the Hobie out to a deep water spot. I fished from 10am to 3:30 pm and never got on the big speck bite. I did get a big bite and landed a 40+ inch Bull Red.
Here is a picture of the towing. Line was too short to go at planning speed. It was the first time trying and we learned that in a hurry. They had so much water coming through the mirage drive opening that it was scary. had to back off and go at a fast idle.

I want to get in on this so bad just not sure where to begin. I've come close to pulling the trigger on a few used yaks in the area in the $400-$500 range but just never did so. I'll have to quit being a bitch and just go for it, looks like an absolute blast.

DO IT.
Fall is probably the best time for kayak fishing (saltwater in general).

I'm thinking real hard about it and may just do it in the coming months.

Because I'm bored I started looking around on Craigslist. Can anyone ID this boat? It's listed as a 16ft Wilderness tandem but doesn't look like a Wilderness and has a Native logo on the side. I can't figure out which one it is. It's listed for $300 as it sits, paddles included.

Cool post. Toting a yak more than a few yards is not fun. I have dollies for both of my yaks now.

In-laws got me an Ascend FS128T over the weekend. Looking forward to fishing when I get everything I need. Going to be a month before I can get out.
Anyone in here fish the bays between Galveston and Surfside?

For a college tourney we launched out of the state park??? Fished around all the camps and whatnot and also around the big concrete breakwaters.

Found it! It's a Native Magic 14.5 solo/tandem. The $300 seems like a killer deal but then I started looking around and it looks like the only seats I can find are $300 a piece. That $300 isn't such a good deal anymore.
