which love is stronger
PM to Javi or Miles to JJ?
Lord, I hope PM's love for Javi doesn't match the other

If it does, we're in trouble.

You people are nuts. We've had a player batting around .500 all year and he slumps at the end of the season. The players around him in the order were all hitting well over .300, and they slumped. We didn't need a new hitting coach when Rhymes was batting .500, did we? But they slump in the regional and super-regional. Now we needed a hitting coach. Sheez. This is insanity.
Sucks for you in today's internet age people can pull up facts that discredit your whole arguement isn't it?

Makes you wonder if we'll ever truly know. Even 10, 20, 50 years from now

I know right
I'm not as good at dodging responsibility like that, my bosses wouldn't buy that line

I agree with him. you either have talent/a hitter or you don't. that is my issue. he should have better talent/athletes.

I blame Applebees for our season.
quote:
Byline: Andy Schwehm
LSU assistant coach Javi Sanchez was sitting at an Applebee's in 2007 during a stint in class-A ball when he got a phone call from LSU coach Paul Mainieri.
He decided to let it ring three times before he answered it because he knew what it was about Aaaoe quitting playing to coach for the Tigers for the upcoming season.
After finally answering the phone, Sanchez had a 30-minute talk with Mainieri before telling the LSU skipper he would call him back. It took three weeks to make the decision, but he decided he would join Mainieri at LSU as a volunteer coach for the 2008 season.
"I never thought I would end up coaching under [Mainieri] so soon or for that …

Look at what happened to the Braves when Terry Pendelton left. I guess that's the players fault because they can hit already, hell they're pros. Why are there coaches anyway if they can already play?
Even better, after Gonzalez said he was keeping Larry Parrish as his hitting coach after the amazing tailspin to end 2011, the GM said no you are not. Then proceeded to hire new hitting coach Walker AND an assistant hitting coach. When Chipper Jones would not say anything regarding Parrish towards the end of the 2011 season and mass let down, what does that tell you about what he thought about Parrish's instructional capabilities and capacity to help slumping teammates?
I don't buy PM's remarks at all, especially when the current bats make runs so damn hard to generate to begin with. Why wouldn't he want a guy that could give the team a more competitive edge at the plate? Maybe it's about money and budgetary constraints. The other thing is if he wanted to play small ball why does the team speed appear abysmal??

It appears that CPM learned how to throw players under the bus from CLM.

Their whole approach at the plate hasn't seemed to match the game situation. I don't know the structure exactly, nor do I profess to be a coach, I was always a player, but if you have a hitting coach, then hitting is their responsibility. If you have a water boy, and the water is never on time, or never clean, or never cold, then it is probably the water boy that is failing.

It's always more on the coach then on the player. Poor instruction, poor recruiting, poor evaluation coming from HS. Whatever it is the problem starts at the coaching level.

CPM throws his players under the bus FAR MORE than Miles ever had.. Miles is a players coach he rarely throws players under the bus. CPM does it yearly.

Well, if Stoney Brook's hitting, offense and better development/recruiting didn't open PM's eyes about his buddy Javi, then I guess nothing ever will.

I have trouble finding words to summarize this BS without writing a book. Our approach is suspect, our discipline is inconsistent and our aggression is late (usually with 2 outs). He may be right in that the issue isn't all Javi's but the fact remains that we need a coach who can provide our players instruction that translates to the field.
I think Sanchez knows the ABCs of hitting but he apparently does not have the ability to motivate a player to follow his direction in implimenting what they are taught.
This season I saw more at bats than ever before (followed LSU baseball since mid 80's) where I got the impression that the batter was not mentally prepared nor motivated to be at the plate.
High pitches, balls of the plate, half-hearted swings, taking fastballs down the middle, etc. -- all signs of not being mentally prepared. It wasn't all the time but there were spans where we looked incompetent for games/series.

well said, AND with few words
I totally agree

I was typing almost exactly what you said there until i read your comments. I agree that it looked as if we were timid and afraid at the plate. While SB stood at the plate looking like they were taking a test in which they had stolen the answers the week before. It was almost like our catcher was telling them what the next pitch was going to be. They never backed down. If they had 2 strikes almost to the man, they choked up on the damn bat and hit, one time for a HR. Its no small wonder why 8 of the 9 players had so few K's this season. That's coaching.

Does anyone hit behind runners anymore?
Is that coaching or either you can do it or not?
