Most athletes are under 7%. I remember reading three nfl examples a couple years ago- Andre Johnson, Ricky Williams, and AP were all at 4%.
Who ever quoted 9-18% is 'healthy', that is bullshite. Once you get over 12%, your abs cannot show. I'd say for athletes 5-9% is average. For the casual health and fitness nut, 8-12% is average.
