Nvm
Looks like the Pirates will take David Dahl at #8 if Zunino of Almora isn't there.

David Dahl
I was really hoping he'd fall to Braves and the Braves would take him. Dahl is being compared to Mike Trout

So if zunino or almora isn't there then the pirates select dahlia?

The Pirates need to draft hitters high at some point. You can have all the pitching you want but it won't matter if you have a lineup full of below replacement level players outside of McCutchen.

Yeah, it's looking like Dahl as long as Zunino/Almora are off the board.

You don't Draft for need. Any hs bat they may take is 4+ years away, so it's not gonna help the Pirates current offensive struggles.
* Three Mock Drafts added to OP as well as BA's top 50 prospects

If the Pirates take him, and he turns out to be anything like Trout, I'd be ecstatic.
I've heard comps to Andy Van Slyke for Dahl.

Here is where they compared Dahl to Trout, granted they have him taken 22 by Toronto

I'm starting to like the idea of Dahl more and more

If the Astros dont take Buxton they are idiots. You cant pass up an opportunity to draft a Justin Upton/Andrew McCutchun type player.

Mariners took Danny Hultzen last year with Rendon on the board..don't be surprised if they do it again w/Kevin Gausman or Kyle Zimmer at #3
Posted on 6/4/12 at 3:37 pm to lsu31always
I don't hate it, but it depends who is on the board. Wasn't Zimmer's velocity down at the end of the year? I think I'd prefer Gausman but obviously some homerism involved in that.

Zimmer has the higher upside of the two due to Gausman's lack of a breaking ball.
Zimmer was battling a hamstring issue toward the end of the year.
The M's are so tight lipped, I doubt Bowden is doing anything more than purely speculating.

I really don't care at this point, I think a solid argument can be made either way. You could certainly take one of the higher ceiling guys. But on the other hand the Astros really can't afford a bust either for various reasons. If you know for sure Buxton turns into an Upton or McCutchun then it is a no brainer, but Appel is a safer pick.

Right, I'm not putting much stock in it. Last year when everyone thought they were going to take Rendon, the reports from 'insiders' from the Mariner camp were that they were taking Lindor. Turns out they were locked in on Hultzen the whole time.
They have taken the safe route twice now in the top 5, it would be following the trend if they took a guy like Zimmer. We'll see, their last four first round picks have been Ackley, Hultzen, Taijuan Walker, and Nick Franklin so I trust whatever they do.

I thought Appel was the pick but I guess there is still some discussion. I am glad this isn't my call.

I think KC will surprise people one way or the other...
