Always a good thread to bring out the rantards.
We should get rid of swimming and diving so we can add soccer.

Notice the entire upper level is filled with decorations instead of fans.

Always enjoyable reading threads full of people ripping on soccer who don't know anything about it except for how "boring" it is. I especially enjoy reading the ignorant ideas of how to make a sport better, especially if you've never taken the time to watch a game or understand the sport.

Most people i know who watch soccer are more fans of sports in general than fans of soccer. For some reason football fans in the south especially seem to hate soccer, I've never really understood why.

And to those making fun of mls, I should point out that tv viewership of top European leagues far surpasses viewership of MLS in the USA. Nothing wrong with that, the league has gotten better every year since it opened in 1996 and will continue to grow and improve.

Also, title IX sucks and

Damned shame too. Louisiana has enough "home grown" soccer talent for an LSU men's team to be a serious contender.

They cant afford to rent out the whole stadium.

But when they do open up the stadium for big matches they sell out

LINK

Not to mention they lead the MLS in attendance

LINK

"The Sounders, with more than 39,000 fans per home game this season, had an average attendance of all but five Major League Baseball teams, according to The Seattle Times. And that mark would rank seventh in the English Premier League and sixth in Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A, the newspaper reports."

You clearly know too little about soccer to have any sort of opinion on it because if you did you would have picked a better target than the Sounders.

you don't need to convince anyone that the MLS is not as popular as the NFL in America.

when compared to basketball and baseball, thats a good crowd....

it will be about as relevant as Hockey was a few years ago. It will also have a strong regional draw. Football and baseball and basketball in the south will always be the top dogs. JMHO

I like soccer, its a good sport, not knocking it at all.

Agreed. Notice how there are no mls teams in the deep south, including florida, whose two mls teams folded with in the last decade

Speaking of Title IX, why is cheerleading not an NCAA sport?

whoever said LA is the worst state for soccer is false. We have some of the top teams in the nation, Jesuit was ranked #7 this year. We have many other ranked programs also

Soccer isn't the even 3rd most popular sport in the world's 3rd largest population (USA) in the world. Soccer isn't the most popular sport in the world's 2nd largest population (India) & 6th largest (Pakistan). Cricket is in both. Ice hockey is just as popular as soccer in the world's 8th largest population (Russia). Soccer's toehold in the world's largest nation (China) only started < 30 yrs ago. In the 10th largest population (Japan), soccer isn't the most popular sport. Yes, soccer dominates in Latin American, most of Europe & Africa. Even in Norway, Sweden, Finland & Switzerland, winter sports are more popular. However, this cliche about soccer being the world's sport is very exaggerated. I've heard this as a justification for why Americans should love soccer too. Frankly, I couldn't care less what the rest of the world thinks. Soccer is less entertaining than watching paint dry.

God these threads never get old. Typical Rant.

Keep fighting it. Deep down it makes you guys furious that ESPN has soccer on multiple times a week. That it's average attendance now surpasses NBA. Keep fighting. It wont matter. It's here to stay whether you like it or not, and it's growing. Soccer will never be king over football (I sure as hell hope not - football is my first love and always will be), but to say it has no chance of overcoming the NBA and hockey is laughable.

Like I said, keep fighting the inevitable. You'll only be disappointed in the time you wasted doing it.

nobody said it was the most popular sport in every country in the world

It is, however, the most popular sport worldwide.
