I'm headed to Grand Isle in the morning to fish in the surf. Anyone know what they're biting: Plastics, live shrimp, or croakers?

Good time. I'm heavily considering making a trip Tuesday.

My brother did well free lining live croakers in the surf, but they were fishing from a boat in the surf

They haven't been picky but the bite has been an early bite and has hinged on tide movement. So make sure you are in the water for sunrise. I would actually be out there just before sunrise. The bite has only been lasting till about 8:30-9:00 then it shuts down until later in the evening.

Suspending mirroulure crank baits are working well right now for the bigger fish as well as topwater(bone color). Throw double rigs for numbers. The water has been clear with sunny skies so throw stuff that is light in color.

Hope this helps.

Anxiously awaiting a report. I can't go, but have been dying to get back in the surf out there.

Live shrimp did the best this weekend early, and once it slowed down we picked up a couple bruisers with plastics on spinner baits. Morning bite was awesome, evening bite sucked. Get out there early, we were closer to golden meadow but by all accounts you could have walked in between the boats off grand isle.

Fished Friday morning in the surf near Artie's.....17 trout on topwater (would have had more but massive bird's nest in my calcutta shut me down for about 15 mins) and 6 flounder jigging by the rocks. Topwater bite was done by 8am. Caught the the trout casting in the surf from ankle to knee deep water. Saw a few boats anchored on the gulf side of the rocks pitching live bait (croakers or minnows in not sure) on carolina rigs that were hooked up on nearly every cast. If you surf fish, watch out for sharks. Ive fished the surf on GI for decades and these were the first I've seen up close. Thankfully, the surf was full of bait and they weren't too interested in my leg.
