Don't know. Probably been done multiple times before this board opened, but I've not seen it and how the frick do you search for that?

Wanted to see other opinions.

As an example of my choice for #1, here is a crushing frickin' solo.

Duane's solo for the 9-19-71 rendition of Blue Sky

My personal favorite is Doug Martsch (Built to Spill). After that, not really sure.

I'm assuming from others on your list that you mean George and not Jerry.

My 5 favorite guitarists to listen to, in no particular order, are:

Roy Buchanan
Ritchie Blackmore
Nils Lofgren
Rory Gallagher
Jimmy Page

Each has a distinctive style and sound. They all have better than average technical skills. And their live performances are, or were, riveting experiences.

You mentioned him, and I can still think of at least 10 right off hand that I'd put in front of him. Read the title again: "Your top 5 guitarists."

It's all opinion.

Frank Marino and Tommy Bolin deserve a mention as does Joe Walsh. Albert Collins was no slacker, either. Let's not forget Mick Taylor (of the Rolling Stones) and Alvin Lee.
