This guy was THE top interviewer in teh sports world. He was THE Oprah of sports back in the 80's and 90's. Grown men openly wept before him. Sure he got names, dates, teams, information wrong consistently, but man could Roy really break people down and reduce them to tears!

What's he up to lately?

Why isn't he as popular now?

Firestone is also an accomplished musical vocalist. He recently released his first CD, Another Voice, produced and backed by Grammy Award-winning fusion band, Hiroshima

I'm running to Itunes as we speak. How did I miss this release?

They run it on ESPN Classic in the middle of the night every now and again.

I always liked him. They still show his interviews on Espin Classic ever so often. He did a really great Jim Brown interview in like 91 or 92. I think Jim Rome aspired to be like him but wanted to add his own shtick and be more of a smart arse, but Firestone could really get to the guts of whoever he was interviewing. He was like Barbara Walters or something.

also I used to think him and the guy from "The Running Man", Harold Weiss was the same person when I was like 8 or 9.

I realize they don't look as similar now, but I always thought they had an uncanny resemblance back then.

I can remember watching him as a kid. He was very good. He also made Rod Tidwell break down to tears.

I know he posts a lot on OriolesHangout.com. I don't know what he's been doing recently, maybe enjoying retirement considering the amount of dough he probably has.

He always seemed like the Mike Wallace type though. Extreme workaholic and craved those big time interviews. It's hard to believe he's not in this game right now. I figured he'd die doing it...just like Mike Wallace.
