I dont think DiMaggio is on the list of Top 4. Sorry, I feel hes a bit overrated.
Ruth and Gehrig are the only definite locks if you can only choose four, imo. The rest are debatable.
Personally, I include Mantle. The fourth spot is open as shite.

Agreed. No way I drop Mantle. 4 would be Yogi or Ford for me.

Did you ever witness Ruth, Gehrig, or DiMaggio play? You are going strictly off of legend if you never witnessed them play (which I'm assuming you haven't because you'd have to be like 95 to even have a shot).
He is a better player? It's hard to judge b/c I never personally witnessed them play and none of them played SS.
Statistically, Jeter is every bit as impressive and is a Top 5 Yankee of all time.

Look up the stats dude. He ranks in the Top 5 in almost every category.

Yogi Berra is arguably the greatest player of all time?

True that. There's been WAY more great players through that organization than great president's through our history.
That cutter was f#%king brutal for hitters though.

Yeah, Dimaggio sure is overrated. He only has the tenth highest slugging percentage of all-time despite playing in a brutally difficult ballpark for right-handed power hitters, played elite defense, was one of the best contact hitters ever while maintaining his power, and was an All-Star all 13 years in the big leagues.

No but he's arguably the greatest catcher of all-time. Jeter isn't even a top 5 shortstop especially after you factor in his defense.

Mold the numbers however you want. He's overrated.

Yankee OPS leaders (min. 500 AB)
1. Babe Ruth 1.195
2. Lou Gehrig 1.080
3. Mickey Mantle .977
4. Joe DiMaggio .977
5. Alex Rodriguez .941
.
.
.
38. Derek Jeter .832
And I know 500 ABs is a terrible cut-off for all-time Yankee greats, but it's what google gave me.
OPS is only one stat, but to me there's no question it's Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, DiMaggio. The only way you'd include Jeter is if you wanted a recent player.

Maybe someone should recognize that the greatest franchise in professional sports history should have room for more than 4 people on its "Mount Rushmore."
if the greatest country in world history only has room for 4, then the fricking yankees can settle for 4 as well

if anything I'd argue DiMaggio is underrated because everyone focuses on the hit streak.
plus he missed his age 28-30 seasons for WWII

Alright he isn't strong in OPS but he also isn't a slugger. Hard to cater to that stat when you don't hit for power.
Here's a question. If you put Jeter back in Babe's time, what is Jeter's BA? The pitching back in the early 1900's isn't comparable to the pitching hitters face on a daily basis now.

Let me put it this way. DiMaggio had a 155 OPS+ during his 13 years in the big leagues. Manny Ramirez had a 156 OPS+ during his first 13 years in MLB. So basically imagine a player who hit like Manny Ramirez in a place like PETCO Park (which was what Yankee Stadium was to right-handed sluggers during that time), was a better contact hitter than Placido Polanco, and could play defense like Torii Hunter in his prime. That's the kind of player Joe DiMaggio was.

no way to know, but the League batting average in the American League in 1923 when Ruth hit a career-high .393 was .283.
the League batting average in 1999 when Jeter hit .349 was .275
and if you put Jeter back in Ruth's time, you put him with Ruth's equipment, training capabilities, etc.
