Winter's Bone

Found this gem on Netflix Instant. Everyone watch this tonight.
I know Jennifer Lawrence got some love for her role, and she does an excellent job of pushing the movie forward and really carries the movie well. You really believe the struggle and the pain she is going through (the chainsaw scene)
The surprising greatness of this movie is the writing and directing. There are scenes just as intense as anything from Inglorious Basterds. And you can really feel the grittiness of the setting. Besides her and the dad from Raising Hope, I didn't recognize any of the other actors but they all did a fine job. Knowing plenty of country people and how they act, I believed every bit of the movie.
I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a big redneck shoot out at the end, but it ended well. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good this movie was.

I've had this in my queue for quite some time, but I've seen a few people on here talk well of it lately. Gonna finally check it out tonight.

Great film...worthy Oscar nomination for Best Picture and I wouldn't have minded if it won.
Jennifer Lawrence
If your only exposure to her is Hunger Games, you need to watch this.

I thought she was horribly miscast as Mystique. But she was good in Hunger Games and great in this.
I changed true to surprising. That's really what I wanted to say.

Winters bone was filmed 30 minutes from springfield mo, where I'm at. Although this area is nothing like the movie, regardless it was an amazing movie. Jennifer Lawrence should have won the academy award and uncle teardrop (gas station clerk in from dusk till dawn) should have won for best supporting actor.
Great movie.
Great movie.

The acting was great in the film, but I was just bored with it
Maybe I'll give it another chance some day...

Loved it as well. I was almost proud of myself, during the interview with the army guy, I figured that he had to be a real recruiter, the scene just felt so genuine. Looked up the IMDB trivia as I always do after watching a movie, and sure enough, it was unscripted and he was an actual recruiter.

Everything about Winter's Bone is good, but I didn't really dig it. The mood was just too dark, gray, and cold...got to me after awhile. Again, very well done, tense, but I just had no fun watching it. Too depressing for my taste.

A terrific movie. I honestly don't get how someone could have been bored with it. The underlying tension was constant.
Jennifer Lawrence is going to be a serious star.
John Hawkes who played Teardrop is a fine actor.
Oh, and Dale Dickey (played the mean redneck woman named Merab) is also very good.

I haven't had the chance to watch it yet, but need to. Gotta support a hometown girl though.

John Hawkes will always be Sol Starr to me, but yeah, he was great as Uncle Teardrop.

I watched it when it was new on Netflix and really thought it was a good watch. It kept my attention and I was rooting for a good outcome. You have to admire the kid for wanting to take care of things when no one else would.
The sad thing is there are a lot of people that grow up like that. Many just get mean, join in on the jackassery and perpetuate the cycle.
Anyone who enjoys watching Justified should also appreciate it.
