As one of the loyaL 3500 I'm ok with this hire. All the pipe dreams on here were never really a possibility in my mind. I really think with support from a good staff/recruiter he could be a consistent winner,it's all about getting kids to come. Welcome back Coach Jones.

great hire IMO. It's just what we needed to get this program going again. A young up and coming coach with local ties. Ex LSU player that can get Louisiana High school kids excited about LSU basketball again.

His resume looks just fine to me. UNT had one tourney appearance in their entire history before he tripled that stat in 5 years as coach.
As for his time as Dale's assistant, it was long thought that he and the other assistants were the only reason Dale had any success at all during the late 80's and 90's. Guess we'll get to see firsthand.
But really, CBB (all college sports, really) is about recruiting. I never expected him to get the top kids to go to UNT. Who did? Being at a respected BB school (yes, we're respected, thouhg not "elite") should tell us how good a recruiter he is. Nevertheless, he sure as hell succeeded while he was at NT, IMO, top recruits or not.
