Gonzaga had been to two sweet 16s and 4 tourneys the 4 years before morrison got there.
But it's Gonzaga! How did they get anyone to go there? Isn't that the issue? The point is that good players go to schools not named Duke, UNC, and UK. You are acting like being UNT is a death sentence that will make it impossible to get a good player there. Shockingly, no mention of Steph Curry. Guess you were too busy missing the point to come up with a ridiculous reason to discount a legitimate point.

They got people to go there because they are a top 20 baskeball school because Few is a great coach. He won off xs and os and is now able to get players like Morrison. Curry wasnt a huge recruit. Great talent wasnt a huge recruit.
Jones recruited the best talent that UNT could reasonably get thats why they are at the top of the Sun Belt. Hes not an amazing coach or else he could coach that talent further ie Few or Brad Stevens. However he is solid. Im sorry no 5 star recruit is going to pass up UT A&M Texas Tech Baylor SMU or TCU to go to North Texas.

Except UNT isn't at the top of the Sun Belt. In conference play, they're right at .500, at least since Jones has been coaching there anyway.

Our tradition isn't good in basketball.
eta: Baylor has not won their conference since 1950, and they recently went 20 years without reaching the tourney.
Pitt has one final four appearance.
LSU has four

Guess we should ask Houston, Providence, Butler, Wichita St., Boston U , VCU, and Utah how they recruit top 100 players.
More specifically, I guess Houston doesn't have same problem UNT has with all those other schools. The bottom line is, I'm not picking on you, but being at UNT isn't an insurmountable handicap to recruiting great. It is what it is, but you act like he's recruiting kids to the University of Pyongyang.
So to recapitulate, he recruited some good players 20 years ago and hasn't approached that level since.

ok
10 people out of 10 would rather live in Columbia
its also a lot easier to recruit kids there. Much better selling points.

Houston hasnt done shite since Hakeem and Clyde and was one of the first schools to actively endorse a freestyle type of play. Dont know why they are here.

Utah
has a solid history in basketball once again not UNT

Wichita St.
Yeah they have really blown up the Rivals top 100 over the years
quote:
Butler,
has one of the top young coaches in the nation. We are talking about a guy who might be the next coach at duke. Not a comparison that Jones is going to live up to.
Once again Jones is a solid back up plan for a school that has potential but been wildly inconsistant for 20+ years.

Check the current ESPN top 100. All of those schools appear in it. Thank you for making my point.
Re: Utah, they have been to the tournament exactly twice since they lost Majerus. You obviously think UNT is some crazy exception to the rule and no other struggling program is like them.

If so many people that played at LSU and sweat for LSU want Jones, then who are we to say he's not qualified?

Your point sucks. Wichita State has 1 top 100 guy for the past 8 years on there.
Jones has won more at UNT than Houston has the past 10 years and houston has an elite history-UNT has none.
Butler has one of the most elite coaches in the nation and went to back to back final fours-not a hard sell
and Utah has as much or more history than we do and is in the Pac 12
Which of these is supposed to prove your point?

The point is clear. If you recruit well, even a small school can become a powerhouse. Like Gonzaga, like Butler. So being at UNT doesn't doom him like you think it does. Again you act like Denton is Pyongyang.
The second point is, when I asked has he recruited a single individual that has approached that caliber since then, you said he is at UNT he isn't going to get that kind of talent. My point was look at all these schools that aren't monsters that have gotten top 100 talent this year.
You disagree with every example, because they aren't North Texas. I can't find you an example you will accept because of two reasons, 1) there isn't one to point to that occurred at North Texas which is my point; and 2) Every school that isn't North Texas is, for lack of a better way of explaining it, not North Texas, so you reject it for the minor reasons that the situations are dissimilar.
Nothing personal to you, I just would like to think that if Ceasar thinks he is such a great recruiter, he would have shown that prowess with an example more recent than 20 years ago.
As to Whichita St., I believe, and you will correct me if I'm wrong, they have one more in the last 8 years than Big Johnny does.

You are putting the chicken before the egg. Those are places where they have elite xs and os coaches and went far in the tournament BEFORE they started recruiting like a powerhouse.

Everyone of those schools has a monster past or went far in the tourney before they started recruiting like that.
Hell one of the providence kids you are talking about (nevermind the fact that they have a great past with a history of elite coaches) was from PROVIDENCE Rhode Island

a homer is a homer, athletes as well as boosters have been wrong before...they have also been right, we have leadership in place to handle this.

I think we are now getting somewhere. I can accept what you have just said and make what I hope will be a final remark on this.
Based on what you have laid out, we have elite x's and o's guys who eventually can recruit and we have great recruiters without regard to x's and o's.
Big Johnny is not well regarded for his x's and o's and I think even you conceded that earlier. His record since Ceasar's references is that his recruiting isn't monster either. To me, that is a good reason to reject him as a coach at LSU. As you see the world, a great x's and o's guy would be the way to go because eventually they will recruit. I can't say I disagree.

That's a pretty big recruit. Doesn't look like UNT is the Calcutta of basketball after all, eh AB? If we are using your criteria from your above posts, though, he doesn't count because he's from Dallas Texas and that isn't far enough away from Denton
In all honesty though, thanks for the info. I struggle to effectively search the basketball recruiting rankings outside of the current year for some reason.
