I graduate Med School in may. Are there any options out there for lowering my interest rate from 6.8%?

Ive been getting several emails from fed loan recently but they only lower it by 0.5%. Just be careful. If you combine them with other debt you will have a hard time qualifying for repayment programs. Wish I could find a better refinance rate...

It depends on who your loans are from, but guessing its a stafford and I don't think you can or the benefit is smalll ... I'm fixing to embark on this debt myself...and not looking forward to it

6.8% is terrible. I'm going to be paying this off for 20 years

Not sure if you happened to notice our government has a spending problem. They look at you as investment, and think "man he really needs this money (supply/demand). With this money he is going to make a shite ton more money later on in life to pay it back". Let's frick with him a 6.9% interest rate. When they themselves only pay 3.2% on a "30 year loan"
After learning too much about numbers the math reasons why i shouldnt go to medical school has almost become more compelling than the benefit of "saving others"

It isnt that bad. Primary care fields have loan repayment programs and most specialties make enough to pay it off quickly.

Congrats on getting through med school.
Never had the brains or the balls to even attempt something like that.

Do people actually fail med school?
Just would seem weird since you have to be so good on everything and go above and beyond to get in. It would seem that process would do an outstanding job on weeding out the weak willed.

I have some med school friends. I wouldn't have the energy for the constant examination schedule they endure.
Law school is a cake walk in comparison from my perspective. 10 or less exams a year, yes please.

How much did you borrow?
I'll say this, LSU is the cheapest medschool in the nation and our median debt is around 170k after interest. I am in that ballpark.

People do fail out, but the percentage is small. That's why the application process is so rigorous. They are making an investment in you. They don't want you to fail or be a crappy doctor with their name stamped on you. There are also those who start school and say f this and quit....
I've heard people say that about law school! But unlike law school, in medicine the floor is a lot higher but the ceiling is a lot lower!

If they are federally backed loans, consolidate them into a Direct Lending Consolidation Loan. Do that during the six month deferment period after graduation.
